The acrylic is very high quality and very strong. It does not bow out when filled with water. The tank is absolutely beautiful and I had so much fun setting it up!
I decided to do a planted tank for less water changes (about once a month or so). I purchased the following substrate that looks great with the black background tank: CaribSea Eco-Complete 20-Pound Planted Aquarium, Black
I used 2 bags for this 26 gallon tank. Then I got a 24 inches (2ft) fluorescent light tube from a local pet store for about $8 that fits this light fixture perfectly! It is a 20W and 6500K which is more than enough for medium light plants that Petco usually sells. I also got this timer so the lamp goes on and off automatically: Woods 50007 Indoor 24-Hour Digital Timer, Daily Settings, 2-Pack
The I got the Whisper filter which was too loud, and Tetra was not very good either. So i got this one which I really liked: AquaClear 30 Power Filter - 110 V, UL Listed (Includes AquaClear 30 Carbon, AquaClear 30 Foam & AquaClear 30 BioMax)
The main reason is that it has a sponge that you need to wash about once a month while other filters need the special cartridges purchased and replaced monthly. This one is also quieter! And it's much better for planted tank as I can leave the sponge in but remove the carboon filter which is known to take away the plant nutrition from the tank. So I only use sponge and a bag of bio balls.
HOWEVER, as for the light, it's great and all, but I wanted something more fun like more LEDs and moonlights! So I ended up getting this light fixture: Finnex Planted+ 24/7 Fully Automated Aquarium LED, Controller, 36 Inch
Now, if you are on a tight budget, just look into some blue LED aquarium lights. They have them for around $10. There are even some to place underwater and it's a light and air-stone combo!
I really hope you find my review helpful! It makes me very happy knowing I helped someone out when getting those email notifications :)
Oh and I plan on buying the 50 gallon SeaClear later so I can have discus in there! Right now I got 3 angel fish, a couple chinese algae eaters, 2 albino cory fish and 7 of those little tiny shiny blue tetra schooling fishes. I love the hexagon shape, I wish they had one bigger too. It make the tank looks bigger because it is long and fishes enjoy swimming it it!
