We are not very impressed with the quality of this product, as you can see in these pics the SeaSense rope ladder broke. We purchased & used it on the side of our sailboat in Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The discription doesn't provide a weight limit but I guess I just thought it would hold up better. My husband is 165lbs, I am 125, & my 13yr old son weighs 140. We all used it 3 times before it broke. I didn't check on the return of this product only because my husband is planning on fixing it McGyver style by tying some reinforcing knots & using duct tape or what have you, because he's just very frugal & likes to do that sort of thing. I just thought it might be benifitting to leave a review for other consumers. Thanks for reading. ;)

The ladder floats to the surface making it very hard to use your legs to pull it straight down and untangle it. I had previously made my own rope ladder with aluminum tubes that worked MUCH better than this since it sank down into a straight line. However, it was wearing out so I bought this ladder instead of making a new one thinking it would work as well as my homemade ladder.
These ladders have a steep learning curve for the inexperienced and there's a technique to using them - they're easy once you get the hang of it. In that regard, this ladder is no different than any other rope/wire ladder as opposed to a fixed steel ladder. However, the fact that it floats to the surface and you have to do some weird maneuvering in the blind, with your feet, to get it untangled and straightened out before climbing in makes it much harder than it should be.
I do like the wide steps which are a little easier on your feet than narrow tubes. I also like the solid extensions to bear the weight instead of knots or sewn-in anchors like some other designs.
Update: Discovered the ladder will eventually sink over time but it's due to holes in the hollow rungs. So it's worthless most of the time until it finally fills with water at the end of the day, at which point it leaks a bunch of water in your boat and/or vehicle and continues to do so for days. Also, the knots at the bottom of the ladder have worn out and frayed after only two uses. This is a piece of junk. It's really easy make your own ladder and you'll have a much better product at the end of the day.

We bought this to use on a rental pontoon boat. Although we were not supposed to jump off and swim, we did. Getting in a pontoon boat that does not have an attached ladder is impossible. While this ladder IS NOT a fixed ladder (it does move around quite a bit), it does allow adequate foot-holds when climbing back onto the boat. Without it, you would be pulling someone out of the water like a trashcan full of rocks- impossible!

I do not recommend this ladder. We bought this for a bass boat and it is nearly impossible to get back into the boat using this ladder. When trying to climb back into the boat, the ladder goes under the boat to where it is impossible to get the leverage needed to climb up it. In our family of 4, not one of us successfully used it to climb out of the water. It was a major waste of money.

It's really not worth getting this it doesn't stay put at all while people are climbing up into the bpar so if you don't have excellent upper body strength to hoist your self into the boat then sorry in the water you stay. Just spent the extra money to get a boat ladder made of metal that locks into place or is more stable.

I purchased this to use as a removeable/temporary boarding ladder for my boat since there is no good place to permanently mount a traditional boarding ladder. 1) You cannot simply lay the top part of the rope over a cleat and climb the ladder as the photos show. Doing so will result in the rope slipping along the cleat until the steps of the ladder rotate from horizontal to vertical. Instead, take the top loop and tie it off the the cleat like you would a dock line - up through the space between the feet of the cleat and around the horns. This will keep it from slipping. For my use, I cut the top loop of the rope and installed stainless steel spring links on each end and then clip those off to a couple of tie down rings on the stern of the boat. This provides extra stability while climbing the rope. I also replaced the closest adjacent stern cleat on the boat with a very large 8" cleat that can be grasped like a grab bar. 2) The PVC pipe sections that keep the individual steps spaced properly are fairly thin. I don't know what the practical weight limit is on this ladder, but if you're a heavier person like me, it might be worth replacing them with regular schedule 40 PVC.
I'm giving the product a 5 star review because it's a clever design at a decent price and will work well enough for most folks right out of the box.

useless for a ski boat. If you hook it on the boat and step on it, it swings under the boat making it impossible to climb. I assume its only to hold to and be dragged to shore.

I bought this to use as a way for people to get back into our boat when out at the sand bar. I run it from the rear tow point on my Malibu VLX over the swim plat form. It makes it much easier for people who struggle to get themselves back onto the boat. The alternative of installing a ladder and doing fiberglass work on my swim platform seemed like too much work and too expense. This stores nicely under the seats in the boat when not being used.

Does not work at all
Reviewed in Canada on September 3, 2018Verified Purchase
Ladder floats on the surface making it impossible to climb when deployed alongside the boat. Tangles up and it just doesn’t work. Once you do get on, the ladder bends underneath the hull and now you’re climbing the thing with your feet under the boat almost upside down. Should have taken it back.

Doesn't work quite how I imagined it
Reviewed in Canada on October 13, 2021Verified Purchase
So I am getting older and having trouble using the existing 2 step ladder onto our boat. I saw this ladder and thought it was perfect. The problem is that this very flexible ladder kind of goes under the boat when I try to climb it, making it kind of useless. Was worth a shot, but nope, doesn't work for our boat.

This item doesn't work. Tried on three different boats and a seadoo. 8 people tried and not a single person could get up using this. It was the joke of the weekend.

Not for us

Maybe we should have researched this more closely but this ladder was useless for us. Couldn’t attach properly to boat and whenever kids tried to use it, it moved so they couldn’t climb it.

If you can buy a fixed ladder
Reviewed in Canada on July 13, 2021Verified Purchase
It seems to be okay quality. my problem is it’s very hard to use. If you are hanging it over a boat, when you put your foot on the bottom step it just moves under the boat. Not a problem with this particular model just a problem with hanging rope ladders all together
