Top customer reviews
Right now I am going to have to go to a local repair store and hope to recover 3TB of data because of this faulty hardware. Very disappointed in the lack of durability for a unit meant to be portable.

I tested speeds compared to my pretty new Seagate Backup Plus 1TB USB 3.0 drive using CrystalDiskMark 5_1_2 with a 1GiB file size and a 32GiB file size. The red and dark blue bars are the Seagate FAST drive, and as you can see it blew away the other drive. The standard USB 3.0 Backup Plus drive is a pretty decent performing drive already, so for the FAST drive to do so well is impressive.
Time will tell how the failure rates on these drives will be, since inside the housing you have TWO matched 2.5" drives configured in RAID 0. But if you need a drive to move files around as quickly as possible on any platform, the failure rate is less important than speed. If you want a drive for archival purposes, this is not the drive you should be thinking about purchasing.
We apologize for the problems you experienced with your Backup Plus Fast drives. We have contacted you directly to see if we can find an available solution. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact our support staff directly and we will be happy to assist further:
for use. Sometime, while I was manipulating informations in this drive, it suddenly malfunctioned. Warning signs came up in my monitor
screen which said that the files or informations contained in this drive had been corrupted. It also asked me if I wanted to remove these
corrupted files. Then I removed the corrupted files. Thereafter, this drive became unusable. It didn't work anymore. I tried to seek the
help of Seagate Technology to fix the problem but it was unsuccessful. One day, I decided to apply my last option to fix it, that is, reformat
this drive. I got it. The problem was resolved and this drive is working again. However, it is now working as a local drive and it does not
have a Seagate identity. I am happy to continue using my drive this way. Thanks for everything.
1st instance: Drive just failed to appear even though Windows acknowledged (chimed) I plugged it in.
2nd instance: Drive appeared as "Local Drive" but I was unable to access it or run Windows disk management on it. Formatted it using 3rd party software and the device showed up.
3rd instance: "Local Drive" issue again
4th instance: Drive would appear with the correct drive name but would take many minutes to access a single directory.
5th instance: The drive will not pass any Seagate drive tool tests. (SMART, Short/Long Generic, or Advanced Test) Incredibly, there is no way to update the firmware since it reports the serial number as unknown.
I'm not a computer expert and I don't have the desire to be one. I tried what I thought would work on the drive and was disappointed that it just kept on giving me issues. Keep in mind that between the instances I listed the drive worked, and when it worked it was what I paid for; a fast, high capacity media brick. Ultimately, though, this was a purchase I regret.
We apologize for the problems experienced with your Backup Plus Fast drive. This is not typical or expected drive behavior. If the drive has failed our SeaTools diagnostic tests, please get in touch with us so we can help find an available resolution to the problem:
I purchased two of these . . . one for my Son and one for myself, there have not been any problems or issues with it.
Seagate has been a quality product.
Originally I gave it five stars but i find myself with a crashed seagate backup plus and even more frustrating is appoximately 3tb of of lost data on this drive. I purchased it on March 23, 2016!!!
I spoke with a Amazon support and the gentleman was very nice and did what he could to problem solve even though the Amazon warranty expired 30 days after I purchased it.
He suggested I contact the manufacturer which it seems it is quite difficult. Perhaps one of their representatives will contact me upon receipt of this review to see what can be done.
