Update: I waited three business days for Seagate's support team to respond, when there original quote was 1 business day. Not only am i discouraged with getting a DOA device, now I'm annoyed at this company as a whole. I will be buying exclusively WD products for all my HDD's now.
Why buy. A used drive when you can get a brand new one for some bucks more.
If course it depends on your usage but for me it was a no brained since I use it for a NAS.
I would recommend the newer style of 3gb drive that is a a little slower but uses only half the electricity.
I noticed this to late.
Nonetheless I am satisfied with the drive so I ordered 3 more to replace all of the drives in my NAS.
THRe “old” ones were seafarers also and gave up after only 20.000 hours. I would expect more but since I do t really know were they came from I can’t tell.
They came with the Lenovo NAS.

On average, this drive sees 150MB/s reads and 100MB/s writes. This is pretty good for a 7200rpm drive. I will definitely update this in the future if this unexpectedly fails.
Of course it's a hard drive and it has its limitations.
If you intent to use this with tasks that require frequent read/writes of small data it can be very slow. I would recommend a hard drive for its cheap price per GB and large capacity. I recommend using it as a secondary drive, to accompany a faster medium that holds Windows and other small software. But... 3TB for this price is great and it's reliable.
I haven't made any technical measurements, but the write speed is very good on this unit as compared to my two year old drive. I'm getting around 135 mb per sec'. So I'm happy at that. I have had fast write, but it obviously depends on the file type you're copying.
I would buy another.
