Just remember you will need to download the current firmware for PS4 (pro & original use same firmware) and it needs to be full firmware download (the one thats over 900mb) to setup the PS4 operating system. Use a USB and make sure you download the file directly into the folder itself (PS4 > UPDATE > then the file).
Dont forget to do a system to system transfer if you have a PS4 already that has games and things on it. It will take a couple hours (around 2 or 3 hours usually), but if you play MMOs (FFXIV, Star Trek, Warframe, Elder Scrolls and so on) it will take longer unless you delete the games off your system before doing the system transfer. Thats because MMOs have a ton of files from always being updated and its just easier to redownload them from PSN.
You can also use that same process if your someone who likes to backup your files on an external drive.
For those wondering, after the drive is installed in the Pro and the system software is loaded, you have about 1.7TB of data left for your games/apps. Also worth noting, this drive is about half the physical size of the included drive, so be prepared to hold the drive in place while you screw it in, because laying it flat in the drive bay will put the screw holes above the actual drive since its half the size of the other one. But this is a good thing as it means there will now be open space both above and below the drive. That's good for heat dissipation and also means the drive won't be touching the metal drive bay and thus can't cause a buzzing sound if the drive bay vibrates.
First drive arrived and gave very poor speeds - about half what a basic (WD Blue) normal 2.5" drive reported. It was also loud (head noise) and was making lots of the noises anyone who has heard a failing drive will be familiar with - repetetive clicking, spiky performance etc..
Amazon were fantastic in immediately creating a replacement order which arrived 2 days later. This drive is.... worse? The performance seems to be better but the drive itself fails / powers down after about 5 minutes, at which point it ceases to be recognizes by the system altogether. It's clearly not related to power management features because it does this even if in use (copying files over or running benchmarks).
So who knows if this drive is any good... They clearly have serious quality control issues going on here and I'd advise you to stay away.
The manufacturer's warranty did not include shipping costs which, of course, would be part of the problem in case you have to return the item.
The problems I had are not worth the risk of buying it again.
Because of this incident. I don't see myself buying another product from Seagate, and should have figured the product was too good to be true. Sticking with WD from now on, the only one that ever went bad was one from 2003-2014, and it still worked, albeit with great effort.
