Your new drive will be listed as 'Unallocated Space' / 'New Volume' This means it needs to be formatted. Right click on drive - Quick Format to NTFS and use recommended settings (unless you really want to screw the drive up or you actually know what you are doing).
Use a clone program (Norton Ghost v15.0 is what I use) to copy the drive you wish to replace or you can drop it into the drive slot, go to refrigerator, grab a beer and call it a day.
I did not find any HDD manufacturers who make 9.5MM drives larger than 2TB. I also found that no companies make 2TB drives that run at 7200RPM or faster either (unless it is one of the $1400.00 SAS enterprise drives). The largest SSD in the 9.5MM configuration is 1TB. I expect this to grow each quarter - with Samsung having announced the 850 SSD line will have a 2TB drive out in December - I imagine the cost will be over $900.00 at first but will come down. Anyway - to remove (or add) confusion - this is actually a Samsung SpinPoint drive - which has been re-badge as Seagate. Seagate purchased the Samsung HDD line in 2011. Many of the drives you get may have a label that says Samsung/Seagate Momentus and will refer you to the Seagate website to register. I think this is because of patent and rights included to compensate Samsung - but w/e The drive I got was manufactured in Feb of 2015 at the Seagate factory in Wuxi China (home of the worlds largest mountain of garbage). Wuxi is also on the shores of Lake Tai. 3rd largest freshwater lake in China - which as of 2015 was dead - devoid of all life except for the vivid blue and green algae bloom.
So what about this drive? Well - for $94.50 this little Seagate (ex. Samsung) is exactly what I was looking for to add significant storage capacity to my laptop. I am fortunate enough to have an Asus laptop which has two HDD bays with SATA II connections (standard SATA connector - the data xfer rate is 6.0gps). Originally the Asus laptop came with 2 500GB 7200RPM drives. I replaced drive 0 with a 750GB Samsung 840 EVO some time ago, and now I have replaced drive 1 with this 2TB drive. Yes this is a 5400RPM drive, it does have 32MB of cache, latency is around 11-12ms. I didn't really care about that. What it does have is a whole lot of space to put crap in - and I really needed that massive amount of space. Companies keep pushing 'The Cloud' and 'Web Storage'. You ever tried to access the 'Cloud' in the middle of nowhere? How about that 'Cloud' Storage when you upload a few hundred mp3's and some video's then the 'Cloud' comes back and says - "Your data files have been deleted due to ToS violation" Yah - makes you really appreciate the 'Cloud'. So screw you Cloud and you too Tom Brady - I got my Seagate/Samsung 2TB drive that can hold all kinds of junk, works just fine right out of the box.
I've also encrypted it so all my secret plans for riding out the coming zombie apocalypse will remain hidden from the 'government'. You see - my cat has informed me that the 'government' has created a giant Mind Engram Observation Widelink or MEOW. The purpose of MEOW is to acquire non-conforming thoughts and plans. The MEOW works with a program called Mind Observation & Obfuscation or MOO. With MEOW and MOO up and running - all non-conforming thought patterns are collected and analyzed by BARK. Little else can be written of this plan.
You will most likely be satisfied with the performance of this drive for your end use application.
1) You will need a phillip screwdriver, it has to be small enough to unscrew the screws on the PS4 and a Flashdrive with more than at least 2 GB of memory. It's also good to not have anything else on the USB drive because it might cause problems.
2.) you will have to open the upper PS4 plate which is the plate that is over the disk drive
3) In total you will need to unscrew 5 screws. 1 to open the drive tray holding the case the hard drive is in so you can take it out - then you will need to unscrew 4 screws in order to actually get the hard drive from the case
4) take out the old drive and replace it with this new hard drive with label facing you , not upside down.
5) Turn on the PS4 and get into Safe mode, you hold the Power button for like 7 seconds. then go to the 7th option that says" Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software ) " This is where your flashdrive comes in. Also your flashdrive has to be formatted to FAT32 or ExFAT or else the PS4 won't recognize it. In order to know this information just connect it to a PC or MAC and right click it and click format.
It's actually pretty easy if you follow the steps exactly. Only reason i had an issue was because i was downloading the wrong file on the Playstation website. Also if you have saved data files for games and you want to keep the saved data files on them and you have a PS plus subscription then make it auto-upload to the online storage PS plus has. then download them again and reinstall your video games. My PS4 started with 1.76 TB which is pretty good. This will definitely have a lot of games to put in. You can also go to Youtube and look at IGN video of How to upgrade your PS4. I feel like 1 TB will not be enough because look at this i bought a 2 TB and it goes down to 1.76 TB automatically. if it was 1 TB it would probably only give you 800 GBs more or less but you get the picture. I extremely recommend buying this hard drive. I don't regret buying it for 100. Because it's worth it, if you're looking to buy more games in the future that is. and each game is like 40 to 60 GBs and doesn't include the updates they put on their games. and DLC too. Then it would be a smarter decision to go with this hard-drive
