Did not work with a Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2nd gen

I bought this for use in adding storage to a Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2nd gen.

It came formatted NTFS, for my purposes it needed to be FAT32 so I reformatted it. At first I though all was well but over a few days it became apparent that it was not suitable. Probably pulls too much power.

I'm not faulting the drive as bad here, I'm observing that if you want to use it for this purpose, you should probably look at other drives.

My configuration is a new Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2nd gen, an OTG cable, a UGreen USB hub with a 10/100/1000 ethernet port & 3 USB ports.

After reformatting, I added it to the hub. Fire OS saw the drive, I then formatted it for device storage. When done I installed a couple of apps on it, including Kodi.

All seemed to be working well. Then in the morning we noticed that the drive was making a beeping/chirping sound. It did not do this all the time but it did every morning & sometimes in the evenings when I was using the Fire stick.

Then while using the stick -and I was running an app that was NOT installed on the drive- the app started to not work properly. I tried going into the settings to Applications -> Manage installed apps and couldn't do that.

I have a bluetooth keyboard paired to this Fire stick, the stick could no longer connect to it.

After unplugging the drive from the hub and rebooting, everything started working normally. I found that if I reconnected the drive it would work for a few minutes & then everything would flake out again.

I even tried using a different power adapter that has 2.1 amps output vs the 1 amp output of the Fire V stick adapter, this made no difference.

I did ding it once star due to the noise, I wasn't expecting that & really don't want to put up with it in my den while watching shows anyway.

I'll just use this for external storage on my PC.

It seems like a decent drive & a good value for the money.

Ok first off, most of these are EXYOS or IRONWOLF drives with no warranty, just the warranty for the plastic case. second off, if you use something like usbtree or hdsentinel you'll see seagate is purposely limiting the SATA speed to SATA II, so even though these advertise sata 3.2 10GB you wont get better than 3GB (like it makes a difference, it's just techno babble and tech lies). Dont buy these, do yourself a favor, buy the enterprise drive thats like 10 less for no chassis and buy a REAL usb 3.2 2x2 usb chassis so you get a 5 year drive warranty (if you go seagate, WD you can complain and get a 5 year warranty for anything). but these are garbage with how they SAY they are 10Gpbs usb 3.2 but are only connecting at SATA II speeds (they do connect at sata III on a real enclosure). Dont let the prettiness or worthless hub fool you, because you are paying extra for JUNK cases that cripple the drive

I have family pictures, audio and videos from my family all the way from a young boy. I am in the process of converting all my media to digital formats such as audio-MP3, Pictures-JPG, Video-MP4 (H264) to pass along to my family. I am an amateur videographer and have many years of family events to pass on to my children and grandkids. I’ve done similar for others over the years to include video at weddings where my wife was the professional photographer. The difference was we gave the bride & groom a complete package of all pictures and video with the disclaimer that they were not copyrighted for them and they could copy to pass on as I am doing mine. I am an amateur and this is my hobby. I get much pleasure doing such things for others. I started with 110 cameras and worked my way up through Polaroid, 8mm, Super 8, VHS, 8mm tape, and now plan to use these 2TB drives to provide all the media to my family to pick the things they like. Because it is in a popular format they can edit and create for future generation as well.

Works great on Mac, but...

Plugged it in and opened up the folder and saw a Chromebook setup pdf, a Windows EXE and a warranty doc, but nothing about Mac setup. After some head scratching and search though the box and doublecheck of Amazon site description I finally went to the Seagate site and found setup instructions for Mac. After that, easy peasy. I also had to get a USB-C to Micro B cord because my older Mac doesn't have USB-3 connectors.
This 5TB portable drive is a fraction the size of my old 500GB external hard drive and doesn't require a separate power cable.
So, the only improvement I see would be to include Mac instructions with the drive.

Die Seagte-Festplatte One Touch Hub 20TB NTFS-formatiert ist bei mir als NAS an einer Fritz!Box 6591 im Einsatz. Dort (NAS) erreicht sie einen Lesedurchsatz von ca. 50MB/s und einen Schreibdurchsatz von etwa 70MB/s. Sie ist hörbar, vor allem beim Hochlauf aus dem Energiesparmodus hört man das Summen. Beim Lesen und Schreiben hört man das Klacken der Magnetköpfe, ist für mich aber nicht störend. Die Fritz!Box steht unter meinem Schreibtisch daneben die Festplatte. Eine schon sehr große Plattenkapazität. Datengrab für Fotos, Videos, VMware-Images und Datensicherungen. Man kann damit sogar über NAS Datensicherungen durchführen ohne die Festplatte direkt an das zu sichernde Gerät anschließen zu müssen. Dauert zwar etwas länger ist aber sehr praktisch. Ab und zu passiert es, dass das NAS etwas nicht richtig macht. z.B. bei Ordner anlegen. Genau habe ich das noch nicht ergründet. Denke das liegt an der AVM-NAS-Umsetzung der Festplatten-Dateisysteme. Wenn die Fritz!Box oder das NAS manchmal etwas seltsam reagiert, z.B. den Index nicht richtig aktualisiert oder die Fritz!Box 'spinnt' empfehle ich die Festplatte von der Box zu trennen, an einen PC/Laptop anzuschließen und eine Datenträgerprüfung auszuführen. Danach wird eigentlich immer das Dateisystem korrigiert und alles ist wieder okay. Bei mir hat das bis jetzt immer funktioniert.

Schließt man die Festplatte direkt über USB 3.x an einem PC/Laptop an, hat sie für eine magnetische einen guten Durchsatz siehe CrystalDiskMark von über 250 MB/s sequentiell. In der Praxis kopiert sie kleinere Dateien z.B. MP3-Dateien mit um die 200MB/s. Ein guter Durchsatz.

Der Energiesparmodus funktioniert zuverlässig auch an der Fritz!Box. Die Front-USB-Schnittstellen funktionieren auch gut selbst unter dem NAS. Die Leuchtdiode am Gerät ist unauffällig, eher klein, nicht störend, könnte etwas besser zu sehen sein, aber ist okay.

Alles in allem und vor allem zu dem guten Preis (Amazon Prime € 334,00) sehr empfehlenswert.
Schnelle Lieferung, angemessene Verpackung, angenehmes Liefermanagment. Gerne wieder.

Das Case hat einen kleinen Formfaktor für 5tb, ist formschön, leise und hat eine gute Preis-Leistung. Intern werkelt eine 2,5" Seagate HDD mit 5.400U/min. die als Langläufer bekannt ist. Sie braucht nicht so viel Strom wie eine 3,5er ,funktioniert klaglos an den meisten Ports und wird nicht heiß. Ich neige dazu diese Gehäuse zu öffnen und die Platten frei zu verwenden. Klar das dann die Garantie weg ist, aber die Teile kosten nackt als interne Platte deutlich mehr und bei der Anzahl von Platten die ich verwende, haut das für mich hin. Leider sieht es so aus das keine 2,5 HDDs mit mehr Speicherplatz für den Verbrauchermakt mehr entwickelt werden, da die Industrie zu SSD wechselt. Bis jetzt sind die Dinger aber vom Preis/gB unschlagbar und SSD sterben meist unverhoffter/geräuschlos, auch wenn sie nur rumliegen.

Die Festplatte kam schnell, aber leider nicht wirklich verpackt, es klebte lediglich ein Versandaufkleber auf der Klarsichtfolie der Produktverpackung, so dass jeder sehen konnte, dass es sich um eine große Festplatte für gutes Geld handelt.
Es geht weder den Zusteller noch meine Nachbarn etwas an, was ich geliefert bekomme, und statt der blöden Klarsichtfolie wäre eine neutrale Papierversandtasche (wie bei den anderen Lieferanten auch, in der auch mehr Artikel Platz hätten) ausreichend.

Ansonsten bin ich im Großen und Ganzen mit der Festplatte zufrieden, sie läuft stabil und tut was sie soll. Sie ist lediglich ziemlich geräuschvoll und blubbert den ganzen Tag vor sich hin, und da das Verbindungskabel zum Computer nicht so lang ist, kann ich sie nicht weiter weg von mir stellen, das ist etwas nervig.
