I bought this thinking it was a new drive, but when I got the drive, it says "Certified Repaired" on it. The drive then failed in its first day of use.

I got this drive about 3 years ago and use it frequently. I'm not getting an error message on startup warning me that the drive is about to die, and I can confirm that something is indeed wrong with it since it frequently hangs when trying to access data. The aggressive power management features shorten its lifetime considerably, so don't expect this drive to last you longer than about 3 years. If you want something with a longer life, hopefully you're using your computer less than 6 hours/day and not doing too many hard drive-intensive operations. You can also disable the power management features with third party software.

As other's have said, this drive will fail in about ~4 years of use. It was good while it lasted, did what it was supposed to do and worked pretty flawlessly while it did work in the years owning it.

I did not buy this HardDrive from Amazon, but rather this particular hard drive model came with my Alienware computer. But after 4 years it started to hang while accessing data. Ran Windows ChkDsk and found that it started to get "bad sectors", which are usual signs of a failing HardDrive. I guess you can't go wrong with the price for a HardDrive to last about ~4 years or maybe I just got an unlucky one and others have lasted longer.

As with any HardDrive that you decide to purchase, be sure to ALWAYS back up your data!

I have used these Seagate 1TB drives in my home RAID (redundant array of inexpensive drives) for years. I finally had the first one go bad last week. It lasted 5 years, and its mate is still going strong. Good bang for the buck, and great overall reliability. I will continue to use these drives, and I have had better luck with these models than with the Wester Digital ones, which I average about 3 years out of.

Received wrong Hard Drives. I ordered 2 ST31000528AS 1TB Hard Drives and received 2 ST31000524AS 1.5TB Hard Drives. Would probably be fine in most applications. These are replacement drives to a Raid configuration and 1.5 TB won't do. I am sure the drives are great. I have had very good experience with this type and brand of Hard Drive. It just won't work for this application.

Good value for 1 TB SATA Drive. Delivered well ahead of promised date. Needed a second SATA drive for an older HP XP8600 Workstation running Win 7. Easy installation, system recognized drive right away. No problems.

This was a new drive (not used or refurbished) and worked just fine. Only "issue" and not really a complaint is that it is a ST31000524AS drive and not a 528AS as it was advertised. Not a big deal since it's faster than the 528AS and it's in a RAID 1 config in a BlackArmor NAS 220 so the other drive is the limiting device. However, I just have an issue in general with being sold one thing and getting something different whether it's better, worse or equivalent without any upfront communication.
