Seal-a-Meal FSSMSL0160-000 Vacuum Sealer
Food Storage Made Simple
Keep your busy kitchen running smoothly with help from this easy-to-use Seal-a-Meal vacuum sealer. With its sleek, straightforward design, the compact appliance effectively removes air from inside a bag, then uses heat to create a reliable seal, which means stored food not only takes up less space in the fridge, freezer, or pantry, but it also stays fresh for longer compared to traditional storage methods (like zipper bags, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, and bulky containers).
Whether portioning food after buying in bulk, planning meals for the week ahead, or storing leftovers from dinner, the vacuum sealer helps preserve the taste and healthy nutrients of all your favorite foods. Use it to store fresh summer fruits and vegetables, cuts of meat, freshly caught fish, shredded or blocks of cheese, or dry goods like party crackers or homemade cookies. It can even be used to vacuum seal important documents, jewelry, silverware, and other household items.
Seal in Seconds
A great introduction to vacuum sealing, this basic model makes vacuum sealing a breeze. Simply add the item to be stored to the bag, place the open end of the bag into the sealer's drip tray, and lower the lid. Press firmly on both sides of the lid until the "Hands-Free" indicator light illuminates--the machine takes it from there. After completing the vacuum sealing cycle, both the motor and the "Sealing" indicator light will turn off. A push of the "Open/Cancel" button cancels the process at any time or raises the lid when finished so you can remove the vacuum-sealed bag.
3 Easy Steps
For Use with Heat-Seal Bags and Rolls
The Seal-a-Meal vacuum sealer accommodates 8-inch, 11-inch, quart-size, and gallon-size heat-seal bags and rolls. Seal-a-Meal includes 4-quart bags to get you started.
Removable Drip Tray
The Seal-a-Meal vacuum sealer features smooth surfaces that wipe clean effortlessly, and its removable drip tray catches overflow liquids and can go in the dishwasher (top rack) for less mess and quick, convenient cleanup.

Top Customer Reviews
I like this sealer because the "Seal a Meal" bags always let vacuum through because of their design is different from "FoodSaver", there is no tab to put bags in like their old previous models, and most important is the liquid catch retaining removability.
If sealing in a hurry, the catch basin is instantly removable, discard liquid and keep moving. Put it in the dishwasher, this is a very nice feature, no more mold.
The sealer bar is mounted securely and seems to me that it is sturdy, I tested and won't flex which is the enemy.
Cord is pretty short. Just push down very firmly on top front corners, and wait for the light. Also capable of just sealing without vacuum. Just like making your own bags from rolls. Does not have separate functions to seal at partial vacuum.
More lightweight, sturdy and easier to store than the old timer Rival Seal a Meal of years past. Probably the most affordable yet of all the sealers, and tested within minutes of getting it. I really am happy with this thing. Doesn't require that much cool-off time between sealing. If it wasn't that good I would send it back, period.
I did a comparison test between two freezing packages. One was the Seal-a-Meal using the variable sized Seal-a-Meal bag roll vs. a commonly used zipper type freezer bag. I used meat from the same package, same weight and size. 1 was packaged with the Seal-a-Meal, the other placed in a freezer bag. After vacuum sealing one package, both were put in the freezer, same conditions.
Within 2 days, the zipper freezer bag meat was covered in ice crystals, freezer- burning the meat. The Seal-a-Meal bag was free of ice crystals and the seal was still holding. At 1 month, the Seal-a-Meal bag was still frost- free, the vacuum seal intact and meat was a normal color. Don't get me started on the other freezer bag!
I have already used this for sealing other items than food as well. (I went on a sealing spree!) Paper towels sealed, then put outside for 2-3 weeks in heavy rain. Was still dry!
I will recommend this product to anyone and would purchase again if needed in the future.
This unit is inexpensive and works great for the price. It has a narrow sealing surface, so your bags need cut straight and be able to lie flat for sealing. It may be loud compared to more expensive units. I've made a few messes with it drawing liquid out of the bag, (my fault, not the machine,) and the lift out tray allows it to be cleaned with no problem. The other user thinks the cleaning tray should be a little larger for bigger mistakes, but still effective.
We've made camp meals, (add hot water right in the bag) frozen meat, (float bag in hot water to defrost, very convenient.). Parchment paper can be used to line the bag when sealing pokey food like rice. Frozen food is microwavable right in the bag.
My personal recommendation: when you are freezing soft or layered food such as lasagna, freeze on a plate for 30 minutes first, then vac pack. the food will retain its shape. We have also used it to protect items such as first aid, medicine, (great for camping) and important documents.
Still going strong, make sure to mind the 20 second break between sealings.
Update: I can verify, although I got 3 months of perfect use the unit sealing function has died just like many of the 1 star reviews have previously stated. After 2 weeks & 4 emails to the company their Customer Service is still trying to make it my fault it stopped sealing because I am not cleaning the gaskets, not true. Or that it's Amazon's fault because it was manufactured a year ago & sat in the warehouse several months before they shipped it to me & the gaskets got cracked, also not true. If the gaskets cracked by sitting a long time then why did it work when I got for the 3 months? Also, the rep emailing me is extremely rude & uppity. She is however good at her job. She has me at the point where I am ready to burn it & move on.
