He uses them to carry all of his gear and protect them in case of rain or being dunked in the river.
After dozens of miles of portaging, the straps are sill comfortable and in good shape.
The ability to carry it on his back while treking through the brush was an added bonus.

This pack worked wonders for my trip to the boundary waters this past weekend. The forecast for the trip was rain and boy did it ever rain. All but one day it rained and this bag kept everything dry. Easy to load in and out of the canoe. And no worries of how to position the bag into the canoe whereas The group I was with all had back packs and rain covers.... They ended up with wet gear.

Couldn't have asked for a better bag for my canoe trip.

I bought a 70L one for a 6 day camping trip to the boundry waters canoe area in MN. I got about 40 lbs of gear into it. As long as you pack it right, it is pretty comfortable to carry. The Bag kept all of my gear dry. We never capsized nor test it in the rain. I do not regret this purchase at all and would suggest it to a friend.

This was my only bag on a ten day trip to the Andes mountains in Ecuador. I packed light. It is just small enough that I could take it as a carry-on on my flights. It can be annoying having to take everything out of the top of the bag to access things in the bottom, but I understood that I was going to have to live with that when I bought the bag. I have had no issues with any of the seams on the bag coming loose or any edges fraying or anything like that yet, and I don't see it happening in the near future.

I am only giving this bag four stars because the straps are not the most comfortable on really long hauls. I think that SealLine could really improve this bag by redesigning the waist belt to add some padding and make it more adjustable.

I have used this bag several times in Canada's Algonquin Provincial Park, and it has stood up well. After dozens of miles of portaging, the straps are sill comfortable and in good shape. Although the material picks up dirt and scuffs pretty easily, it has yet to lose its waterproofing or wear thin in any spots. Very happy with it.

I've been using one of these in the seas and jungles of Papua New Guinea. It does exactly what it says. It's a good size for a large day pack, or for what I sometimes use it for, to carry my laptop bag inside to keep it dry on the 6 hour walk from the camp to the airstrip.
The bag material is a very tough PVC style material. It's lasting very well on a previous bag that gets a daily flogging.
If there is a con, it's that the shoulder straps get very smelly from sweat, and need regular washing. Plus they have this weird mesh covering that is a bit rough on naked sunburnt skin. Both are to be expected really... the weird mesh is there so they dry out quickly. Normal use would likely not have this problem.

Just one external pocket would be awesome. It does what it says. Just a big waterproof shell. To keep my loose items organized I bought a few nylon sacks. Otherwise you're digging around in there whenever you need something. Straps are comfy.

Bought for my 13yo son for BWCWA and Voyagers NP canoe trips. He thinks it's great. Kept a few changes of clothes and his sleeping bag in it. Fed the sleeping bag in snake like, as it won't fit rolled up. It all stayed dry despite someone dropping it into the river and it floating downstream till intercepted and recovered.

I've had a couple of SeaLine 55 liter Baja Bags for about 20 years. Tough, durable, and never leaked through all weather, desert heat to freezing cold. Used strapped to the back of motorcycles for touring throughout the US, Canada and Mexico; camping and canoeing.

I got him this so he could have the backpack straps for portaging.

Fantastic product. I almost bought a smaller size - would have been a mistake. Took this on a week long canoe trip and it stored my sleeping bag, all my clothing, the TP, first aid and few other items. Kept them completely dry. This held the equivalent of a full size backpacking backpack. Material is very durable, the backpack strap feature was very nice to have. I bought a small 20L dry bag as well for miscellaneous items - camera, wallets, etc. Nice to have a separate bag for more frequently needed items.
