James Steinbach Director, Wisconsin Public Television My first mistake in reading this book was starting it late at night – I couldn’t put it down and had an early flight the next day. My second mistake was in reading it on the plane where I uttered sympathetic groans, shed crocodile tears and let a few peals of laughter rip from my lungs in the company of a planeful of strangers. My third mistake was in assuming I knew everything about Nancy Zieman. Her success has been built on true grit, honesty and control of her destiny. She is the American success story. Who knew that SHE had to PAY to be on all those TV spots on PBS. I sure didn't!
If you have followed her career you might like hearing her stories!
Nancy Zieman's struggles to overcome the effects of Bell's Palsy as a toddler and fit in in her school years, are encouraging. Nancy moved through her early school years achieving better grades as she became older. Her strong, but quiet determination resulted in her achievements as a "sewist" in 4 H. Later, her challenges to get through college with all of the surgeries and medical issues, including continual pain, should be an eye opener for many young people, who feel they have to many challenges to move ahead in the world.
Nancy is a lady, who also shows strong character in being able to share some of the flaws in her life. She admits when she and her husband didn't always agree in their business. It takes a very strong person to open their personal life in this manner, up for the public.
Having watched Nancy Zieman on public broadcasting for many years, I had no idea what she had overcome to achieve both respect in the sewing industry as well as success.
