Published in 1999, written in a straightforward style, it grabs the reader from the very beginning and (other than the subject matter at times) is easy to read. I learned quite a lot from reading this memoir. You might be tempted to skip the preface and the forward, and the writing of her daughter at the end, but don't.
I think it has a very slow start because the author starts with her earliest memories in Romania. If you decide to read, you will soon be swept into the craziness of WWII and bigotry. It has been a month since I read the book and I am still haunted by some of the experiences of the author.
For.me this is a must read for those interested in this topic.
