Blog postIn honor of COVID-19 here's a list of Pandemic films & Shaun of the Dead (for humor purposes). Contagion is considered the most scientifically accurate (for a film/fiction). Outbreak is one of the OGs, but it's definitely got some great examples of what not to do / how not to handle the situation. Speaking of WHAT NOT TO DO.. The Crazies is a great one to remind us that sometimes the biggest threat is really the damn people.. 28 Days Later too. Last but not least we have The Stand. I muc<10 months ago Read more

Blog postHere is the most accurate representation of our Oscar Votes. In my original notes I had Little Women for Costume (I agreed with that nomination and win) as well as Laura Dern for Best Supporting Actress. But whether I was vocal and clear about that on the podcast is another story. Either way I had 10/20 or 12/20 while Steve definitely had 12/20 correct. Collectively we had 14/20 or 16/20 if you count my Little Women and Dern vote. 2019 was a fantastic fucking year for film, one of the better11 months ago Read more

Blog post"Goooood Day Nerds." Ken & Steve the two brother's behind the Nerd Cantina Podcast were kind enough to allow me to come onto their show and participate in our own Oscar picks in anticipation of this upcoming Sunday's Oscars on February 9, 2020, 5:00 PM PST.
2019 was an excellent year for films..It was the closing of a decade, but it felt like a crescendo of the last century. If I had to sum up this years Oscars in one word, that word would be “historical.” We went throug11 months ago Read more -
Blog postOscars are upon us, so I made sure to knock out Oscar nominated films I enjoyed while revisiting my favorites (Parasite & Joker) as they're now on digital. I went to the theater A LOT this month, as there was a film festival in town & also my local theater is replaying older films (Exorcist & Fight Club). Well lets get to it shall we.. Blog postIt's ironic how the biggest criticisms revolving around Eminem is the content of his lyrics. The same critics who feign offense have shown complete disregard for the lyrics and messages behind other non-eminem radio hits. Songs such as Foster the People's - Pumped Up Kicks(a track with lyrics that tell people they better run while being mowed down by a school shooter) or Baha Men - Who Let the Dog's Out (a track with lyrics that are asking "who let the ugly girls into the club"). Blog postI feel for those who fight their alarms each morning. The day hasn't even started and already they're tired, drained, and struggling against time. Each groggy pressing of the snooze is an uphill battle, a futile attempt, to conquer time and gain more sleep. First thing in the morning, and the day hasn't even started and already succumbing to defeat. Once out of bed, everything must be done in a hurry. The rush begins before the road and well before a single footstep into the workplace. The ra1 year ago Read more

Blog postAldous Huxley's 'A Brave New World' does a great job forecasting our voluntary servitude, while George Orwell's '1984' does a great job forecasting our mass-surveillance. Then Kurt Vonnegut's 'Player Piano' nails our Automation Revolution and even hinted at our impending/near-current AI revolution. 'A Brave New World' predicted a future that preferred human labor, and purposely bred people to be simple and comfortable working menial jobs, while allowed more mental growth for higher level job1 year ago Read more

Blog postThere are people that have don't have "it" yet they relentlessly try, push and never quit. There are people who have "it" but they're unable to put in the work, or believe in themselves, and they are always ready to quit.
Then there are those who have "it" work hard, and never get a chance in hell because the right eyes aren't on them, while there are tons of people without "it" but know the right people, have the right connections and timing or1 year ago Read more -
Blog postNetflix, Amazon, and Disney+ ; (HBO's Silicon Valley and Watchmen wrapped up beautifully - highly recommended, finished those during this time, but they were on Oct's list).
Books & Comics this month shared similar themes of Dystopian Future as well as many having been adapted into film..and yes, the books/comic are far superior.

Blog post"Enough is enough," says Woke California Resident Susie Karmichael when interviewed by BSJK (A totally legit and not completely made up organization). "It's one thing to avoid paying taxes and take up public space, while reminding us of the struggles and neglect of our society..but to not have the common decency to change the signage to "Happy Holidays," there's no excuse for that!" Blog postIt's a common misconception that only the "wealthy" can afford to eat healthy and there is much profiteering involved in encouraging this belief:
1. Healthy foods seem to be priced higher in the short-term (if not directly in cost, certainly in preparation time, going to store, etc. and time = money), but no one is attaching the medical bills and related cost to the long-term effects of the garbage people consume. I have a feeling if we honestly priced the junk that cost che1 year ago Read more -
Blog postI spent time researching webcam covers for my devices. Go ahead and say it, "reads Edward Snowden once." Anyways, the problem is that my smartphone and laptop both use facial recognition and well..these things completely block the sensors (which are outside of and on either-side of the camera). So I could get one of these things, but then I have to permanently give up my facial recognition - even when it's convenient. Which made me realize how easy it was to sacrifice my own privacy1 year ago Read more

Blog postThese days I’ve been tracking and monitoring my Stats as much as possible, as if I’m leveling a character in a video game. Here’s some inspiration and a peek into my madness:
Health/Fitness:
“Lose It” App + EtikCity Scale
The scale tracks my weight and all those other stats, it cost $25 + tax on Amazon. (Not sponsored by any of these products, this is just what I use). My goal is to get down to 190-200 lbs by April 2020; I’m 6’2 in case anyone cares.

Blog postRobert (The Witch) & Max Eggers present The Lighthouse. Starring Willem Dafoe & Robert Pattinson in a character driven, slow grinding spiral through the human psyche.
Consider it akin to a Theatre performance: few actors (mostly the two) and a single stage. There are long silences, few spoken words and at times it borders Shakespeare (especially when Dafoe breaks into a monologue).
I think most will prefer to wait and watch it from the comfort of their homes. Runtime i1 year ago Read more

Blackhawk: Volume 2
Feb 21, 2020
$3.99
Welcome to Blackhawk, Colorado. Blackhawk has always been strange. Natural disasters. Disappearances. Murders. High strangeness is a part of daily life. We can't hope to explain it, but we can chronicle its past. Learn from it. Fear it. Blackhawk is an experimental fiction series set in a shared universe, written by a variety of talented authors. It is the brainchild of David M Brown (Plague Doctor, Modern Animals) and Carl D Smith (Moleb the Giant, Darkness Out of Carthage). Each story will contribute to an organic, evolving mythology as diverse as the voices behind its tales. For fans of True Detective, Lost Highway, Twilight Zone, and The Terror. This is Volume Twp of the series and contains five stories by five different authors, each in tune with the specific strangeness Blackhawk has to offer. NOTE: For fans of Lake Lord Publishing's prior horror titles, be warned that Blackhawk will contain content that is perhaps more disturbing and mature.
