In Search of Our Mothers' Gardens: Womanist Prose Paperback – May 19, 2003
In this, her first collection of nonfiction, Alice Walker speaks out as a black woman, writer, mother, and feminist. Among the thirty-six pieces are essays about other writers, accounts of the civil rights movement of the 1960s and the anti-nuclear movement of the 1980s, and a vivid memoir of a scarring childhood injury and her daughter’s healing words.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2021This book is in a condition even though is a second-hand book. My wife uses this book as her inspiration for her capstone projects. We would recommend "One Child Of One's Own" in this book. It's very interesting. Similar to A Room Of One's Own by Virginia Woolf.

I reread the essays just recently and found myself publicly bursting into tears because of the power validation it brings to various manifestations of Black women's creativity. Beautiful essays.
