Only seven years have passed since Rose Sheffield was a carefree college student, though it seems like a lifetime ago. Now she works at menial jobs to support herself and her mother, and they live in what used to be their vacation home in Wildwood, New Jersey. Rose’s days are pure drudgery, until she meets Charlie. Before the Great Stock market crash of 1929, Charlie Brannigan was hailed as an up and coming artist in Manhattan. But now he’s back at his family home in Wildwood, delivering newspapers in the mornings and selling his paintings on the Boardwalk in the afternoons. He needs some luck in his life, and it seems every time a pretty lady named Rose appears, good things happen.

Hard luck story turned lucky

What a charming story. In the midst of the Great Depression, an artist finds not just good luck but his own HEA. A former rich girl will do anything to take care of her mother and discovers a way to help the artist, her mother, and the whole town. The characters were realistically drawn. Family obligations superseded one's own happiness. A real feel-good story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of two people who at one time had known success only to have had it stripped from them by the stock market crash of 1929. I chance meeting sets them each on the path to help each other gain satisfaction in life, and in the process bring success to those around them also. They soon discover there is more than luck behind their success. Sweet romance.

Searching for Lady Luck was a short but very sweet love story. It was fun to read as Rose and Charlie took the difficult situations they found themselves in and turned their lives around by working together. In the process their love develops. This was a short novella but the story was not rushed, it was well developed and complete. Highly recommend this book to anyone who liked sweet, clean romance. I will be reading more from Patricia Kiyono.

Another great novella by Ms. Kiyono! She brought the Depression years to life with the tale of genteelly impoverished Rose, who is left as caretaker for her fragile mother, and struggling artist Charlie. The era and the people of the Boardwalk were clear and realistic without becoming a boring history lesson with chunks of useless information. The secondary characters felt real, flaws and all.
Rose and Charlie had a lot of past history to overcome, but by allowing themselves to trust the other, they were able to find their happily ever after.

I don't usually read historical romance so I wasn't sure what I'd think of this novella but it drew me into it's endearing plot. The characters are sweet and really come together in a hard time

Perhaps a little too sweet

A charming story that reads easily with characters one can relate, although i had a hard time believing that there would actually be a person, (heroine's mother) who does not know how a refrigerator works or how to open it to begin with, no matter how pampered her previous life had been (perhaps she simply is stupid). Anyway, the story is very sweet, and all the characters are basically good at heart (no villain in this story), and all works out possitively for everyone (kind of too good actually). I didn't really feel the intensity of the romance, but that too seem to work out as well. Innocent kissing is as far as you get; clean romance, and suits just fine.
I bought this book as part of Romance to the Rescue boxed set.

A Sweet Romance Revolving Around A Sad Time In US History!

This heart-warming story takes place after a terrible time in our history, Black Tuesday in 1929, with the crash of the stock market and the beginning of the Depression. We have men who had so much invested into the market that took their own lives. We have families who lost almost everything. But throughout this story, we find strong people with perseverance who deal with the circumstances that come to them. Families that are existing day by day for survival. Men like Charlie who had to give up his dream in New York as an upcoming artist to move back to New Jersey to be there for his family. Rose who had to leave Vassar and now was taking care of her society mother and working jobs to put food on the table. Charlie, selling paintings at the Boardwalk and Rose meeting was never an accident, it was meant to be. I love how she was practical and had a great business sense to her. Her faith in Charlie's painting and desire to revise part of the home her and her mother lived in to become a gallery. Her vision and business intelligence was a win-win for not only Charlie, as an artist, and many other artist, but for the entire community. I loved the interaction of the characters in this story and the HEA ending.
