Jake has always been the only brother the girls didn't go for. That’s one reason it hurt so much when his sister died, because they had always been close. But Tiffany seems to like being around him, and he sure likes her. Yet, Jake can tell someone has mistreated her, and she’s hiding some deep hurts. He wants to be the man to heal those wounds and protect Tiffany, but does he have what it takes to do that?
I liked these characters, especially Jake. However, so much of the book seemed unrealistic to me. I couldn't see someone who was just beginning to try to escape such an abusive husband falling for another man as quickly as Tiffany did. Neither could I see her going back to check on her grandfather without telling Jake, or at least calling him from the hospital. It also bothered me that Tiffany, and later Jake, acted as if Tiffany no longer had a husband, but she did. I felt they should have slowed down their romance until the situation with Trent was settled. I don’t particularly like alpha men, but Jake came across as a little too weak and incapable. However, the book was clean with only one mild curse word, and I appreciated that.
Tiffany wakes up to her relationship and realizes it has gone beyond abusive to life threatening. Her grandfather & his friends help her with money & a new id and send her out on a fresh start. She stops for the night in a small tourist town and goes to a small local store to purchase something for her supper. There she meets Jake who is running the family business. They run into each other again and a relationship develops.
Stacy's characters are well developed. Their relationships & interactions with other characters are very believable. The mystery/suspense is a perfect addition to keep you interested. I really enjoyed reading this book and actually went out and bought the others in the series and have read them now. I've found a new author to add to my favorites!
This was a great read! It's clean, it is fun, and it has romance and suspense! I'm going to enjoy reading all the books in this series!
Jake is one tired man. He runs the family business by himself due to hardships in his family. I liked Jake. It's tough to be put in between grief, family loyalty and taking care of yourself. He is genuinely a nice guy. I love his growing relationship with Elena/Tiffany.
Tiffany is a woman beaten down. She is running from an abusive husband. However, deep inside we see glimpses of who she could be if fear didn't rule her existence. She is also a well rounded character.
As their lives intersect, both have the ability to help the other toward wholeness.
