The book travels through the lives of Tyler and Amanda, beginning in pre-teen years, and most of the story unfolds in their young adulthood. The progression through time I found to be effortless and I didn’t feel knocked around by the transitions from chapter to chapter. The descriptive storytelling had me immersed in the setting, and by the end I was really looking forward to book 2.
At a few points in the book, some of the dialogue felt forced and/or unnatural. However, I can find no fault with the book, no holes or clunkiness in the story line whatsoever. It was a very pleasant read.
Amanda and Tyler grow from childhood into young adulthood in this book and life changes drastically over the years. Through it all is the story of true friendship, hope, and love. Surprisingly. the story does not resolve itself at the end so I look forward to Book 2!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
This was a wonderful story!! I didn't want to put it down!! Sara Jane Jacobs had me hooked from the very first page to the last. She brought to life a story of a young girl named Amanda. Growing up in the mountains, which she loved, but was really lonely for a friend to play with. So she prayed and asked God to send her a girl to be friends with. God answered her prayers, except instead, God sent her a young boy named Tyler. They bonded right away and became the best of friends!
She takes you on an adventure through the life of Tyler and Amanda, watching them grow up and watching their friendship blossom!
This story shows that when the Lord answers one prayer that many can be answered along with it. It shows the true meaning of frienship, hope, and love. Also that when we ask and pray one way, God has a way of answering your prayers to fulfill his plan for your life. I thought the Author did a superb job the whole way through!! I recommend this book and can't wait for part 2!!
We get to watch Tyler and Amanda grow from complete strangers to best friends, the trials and tribulations they face, the promises made and kept. They have feelings for each other but neither is willing to admit it and after graduation Tyler joins the Navy while Amanda goes to New York.
Enter Aunt Phoebe... doesn't every book have a person you love to hate? Amanda is caught up in the whirlwind that's Phoebe. She's modeling and making a name for herself. Tyler is in training to become a SEAL and although they try to stay connected their worlds seem to be drifting apart.
The end of the book is a real cliffhanger. Do they find their way back to each other? I can't wait for the next book!
Kudos to Ms. Jacobs. I thought the book was very well written. I ached for the characters and laughed with them. The content was very clean, with only one scene having violence but that part was integral to the story to depict the life Tyler and his mother had left behind. It teaches morals and values and is a great read for all ages. The cover art is beautiful!
