Tristi Pinkston has the ability to find the soul of her characters and to portray them to her readers. I read Season of Sacrifice (and Nothing to Regret and Strength to Endure, two earlier novels) before they became Kindle ebooks. Regret is my favorite of her novels so far, but I was enthralled by the story she told in Sacrifice. These hardy pioneers about whom she writes were special people, embued with their own sacrificial heartaches brought on by the tough living standards to be found in the southern Utah desert and mountain country. Tristi portrays them as people of character, fraught with the requirements of daily life. Add the personal tragedy and they become larger than life.

I will continue to read Ms. Pinkston's work, knowing that I will obtain the joy of a good writer and a great story.

Excellent portrayal of the sacrifice and beliefs of the early saints and pioneers. I appreciated her work in Sharing the details of life in both Wales and Utah and an excellent portrayal of a family coming to a new land where they didn't speak the language. Having experienced that a couple of times ourselves, I feel she didn't excellent job of capturing the experience accurately.

I've read other books about this incredible journey through the "hole in the wall", but in reading this true and insightful story, I gained a greater understanding of the perils and hardships endured by those early pioneers and their incredible faith, perseverance, and determination to accomplish the goals set for them by their leaders. The author has taken records and journals of her ancestors and written this part of their history in a very interesting and riveting book making it difficult to put down, an unforgettable read, and leaving you with a feeling of gratitude to those people who took the time to record their experiences. I loved it and highly recommend it.

Actually, I believe this was one of Tristi Pinkston's firsts, but it is so wonderfully written I'd recommend it over and over again! The remarkable thing about this authors writings is that you never get bored reading the same story line in different scenes, because Tristi writes so creatively in numerous genre's. Now that's talent!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book about my great-grandfather and his life. I am amazed by the things he and his family endured in their effort to do what was right. They are amazing people and make me want to be a better person. Anyone interested in the fascinating history of southeast Utah or in overcoming adversity will enjoy this book.
