The holidays have come early this year with another fabulous read by Ms. Cox! Whenever I read one of this author’s books, I know to expect endearing characters, a captivating storyline and it is all here wrapped up in a big bow for your reading pleasure. Daisy has invited six of her single friends up to her cabin to celebrate Christmas. What she does not tell them is that she has set them up with their potential matches as that is her livelihood. The kicker is Daisy does not specify who she has paired with whom and leaves it to the six of them to figure out for themselves. I loved how each character has his/her own distinct personality and run the gamut with regards to each one’s occupation. My favorite is Austin. He is the geeky, super smart, and socially awkward guy aptly nicknamed Sheldon (a character from “The Big Bang Theory.”) To round out the rest of the singles: Rowan is the sweet and caring cook who quit his last position because he was undervalued by his boss, Will is a demanding and overworked doctor who does not want children, Juney is a very creative author and the CEO of her family’s vineyard, Amber is the strong-willed CEO of her family’s construction business who has a tough exterior to deal with all the men in her life, and last but not least is Hunter. She is the self-made millionaire who comes from very humble beginnings. As the reader delves into this book, he/she is overcome with feelings of warmth and happiness that enriches the spirit of the holiday season. Sit back, relax and spend some time with these new friends and see where things lead….This is one book you want to grab and read!
I volunteered to read an arc for a review.
**I also purchased this anthology and am looking forward to reading the rest of the stories.**

>> Review of Winter’s Reign by Tracy Goodwin <<
Queen Serafina had always said that Alexandra Knightley would reign over her dead body – and apparently she was right. Alexandra held back the bile as she tried not to breathe in the stench of death around the Queen’s rotting remains. Crowds of her female subjects, stretched out for miles, now huddled in the cold, fearing what was to come under the new Queen’s reign. Their memories of the former Queen who caused them only misery, mutilation, and starvation justified the stark observance of the royal death, devoid of trappings or glory. Red had been Serafina’s color, so Alexandra chose black in defiance. Even the black roses surrounding the casket were rotting and stinking.
Queen Serafina had been sadistic and cruel; to keep her subjects weak, she took away all the advances and comforts that the realm of Aridon had offered and put them back in the Dark Ages. Instead of comfort, only pain, blood, torture and fear were inflicted on the people – the land around them was littered with burned villages, debris, and mass grave mounds so they wouldn’t forget their suffering.
The rising new Queen must now wear her mother’s crown, but only if the crown accepts her. She will bleed as its spikes dig into her flesh and, with blinding pain, the spikes will take root inside her head. The crown is allegedly cursed, and it decides what the new Queen will become. Who will Alexandra become? The subjects are terrified of what new atrocities will be heaped on them with the new ruler’s pending coronation. As the coronation proceeds, Queen Alexandra sees the vision the crown meant for her – atonement for her mother’s selfishness, for Serafina’s atrocities.
As Alexandra steps forward, she hears a strange “whoosh, whoosh” and looks to the skies as the snow begins to fall. Something is coming?! A screech fills the air, and a dragon hybrid, breathing a stream of fire, flies at her! One of her Royal Guard, Erik, jumps beside her and shields her from the flames. There is no doubt – more danger is coming!
The author gives us an absolutely vivid picture, all too realistic, of the devastated kingdom the dead Queen has left behind. The description is so good that it may bring shivers down the reader’s spine. The story line relentlessly pulls the reader along, the suspense increasing steadily. It almost feels as if the reader is right there in the middle of it all! Do not miss this riveting story – along with the others in this collection! This one will keep you on the edge of your seat! It’s definitely worth your time to read it and enjoy this talented author’s writing!
