Well here it is 12 years later and that Seasonic from 2005 is still running strong.
I did a build about 2 years ago and at the time I didn’t need anything with more wattage or features so I used the 12 year old Seasonic (this was the 3rd PC it had been installed in). However, recently I have decided to upgrade my video card and add some more peripherals. I had read announcements that Seasonic was coming out with a new PSU, and since Seasonic has been such a great brand for me and I wanted a modular one, I got the new Seasonic Focus Gold+.
Never having a modular PSU before, it was a bit of a challenge making sure I hooked everything up correctly, but boy is it nice not having all those yellow and red wires everywhere and trying to hide them all. I really like the modular PSU. The only drawback I found is that the instructions were very minimal. I also wish there had been a wire diagram in the instruction book. I just followed how my old PSU was hooked up and everything was fine.
This PSU runs nice and quiet and you can just feel the solidness in the build and the care with the design. Another great product from Seasonic!
Long story short, if you're in the market for a new PSU, go Seasonic. This particular model is a tier 1 PSU, which is the best you can get. Absolutely love the product, and now I'm a lifelong Seasonic fan.
The unit is quite compact for a 750W power supply - I was not expecting that, and was very pleasantly surprised. Leaves ample room for cable management.
It is also very silent (and that's not even using the hybrid mode).
Fully modular, so that's nice. The black braided cables are nice too, although they do bulge out a bit (I think the bulge is inline capacitors), but not unsightly, just that you can't bend the cable at that point.
All in all, I really like this unit, and based on other reviews (jonnyGuru), the build quality is great and it should last a long time.
I have high hopes for this PSU to last. It's got a sturdy feel, built well, looks nice, and is compact. Plus the fully modular cables. It's really quiet, too, even with the fan on.
I bought this to replace an old Ultra LSP650w. The old PSU was given to me as part of the PC, and they were under the impression that it was an 800w PSU. I learned just today that it's actually a 650w when I took it out. Anyway, after some time, this junk PSU started to fail, and my PC was having some weird problems. I was scared that if I continued running this failing PSU, it would shit on all my other components. So I just went for the buy, and now my problems are now gone, I can play any game under heavy load, because my components are receiving the power that they deserve.
If you want a solid PSU, go for this. Thanks!
