2008 release, the first time on CD for the debut LP by Canadian singer/songwriter Terry Jacks who had previously been a member of the Poppy Family. The title track gave Terry a #1 across the globe reaching the top spot in the UK, USA, Australia, and Germany, to name but a few countries, on it's way to selling over six million copies. The single also topped the charts in Canada and remains that country's largest selling single ever. The four bonus cuts, all appearing on CD for the first time, include Terry's last Bell Records single "Rock N Roll (I Gave You the Best Years of My Life)" which hit #25 in his native Canada. 7T's.

This under-rated album has been out of circulation for around 30 years and the project team at Cherryred/7 T's (UK) licenced from Sony BMG must be thanked for this re-issued album on CD. I understand several other Artists from the early 70s have also had their albums re-issued in the same way.
The tracks have been beautifully remastered and sound great! Apart from 'Put the bone in' which is obviously taken direct from the 7" vinyl single as some crackles can be heard, yet nevertheless this doesn't distract this rare now available song.
The four bonus tracks are 'Put the bone in' (b-side of 'Seasons in the sun'), 'If you go away' (Top Ten UK Single), 'Me and you' (b-side of 'If you go away') and 'Rock n' Roll' (Last UK uncharted single). These songs are a real additional treat for this CD.
The CD inlay has excellent informative liner notes as well as european colour pictures of 'singles' covers. The inside also includes the original back cover of the LP nicely reproduced.
This Album was a real pleasure to listen to. If you like the song 'Seasons In The Sun', you will like this CD. Highly recommended.
I was living in Corvallis, Oregon when this title track went #1, and it seemed like Terry Jacks would never be heard from again. I then, returned to Detroit Michigan, where I was just 15 miles from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. And so, of course, the Canadian radio station CKLW AM was the main favorite station to listen to for current pop radio. And being that Terry Jacks is Canadian, of course, they would play more of his music there than anywhere in the US. Though it charted low here in the states, his next hit was "If You Go Away", and I just loved that song, and I decided to research his music more, than I discovered he was part of the duo of The Poppy Family. Susan Jacks sang "Which Way You Goin', Billy?", and "That's Where I Went Wrong'. Both beautiful songs. But, I explored Terry Jacks even further.
What was also a Poppy Family song that Terry Jacks sang was "Where Evil Grows". Of course, it charted low, but it must have been very important to Canada because CKLW played it regularly.
Then, check this out. Terry Jacks was the lead singer for a group called Hood. And CKLW played a song called "Cause We're In Love." That song never charted at all on Billboard's Top 100 Pop Hits, but again, Detroit heard it everyday on a regular basis, and I've been looking for that song for more than 25 years, but I didn't know it was Terry Jacks at the time.
Back in the good old days, when everybody was downloading off of Napster, I took a chance to see if anyone had that song, and sure enough, it popped up. I got the song, but even today, I doubt it can be found anywhere. So, since I have that song, and I've purchased the best of Terry Jacks (the CD is called "...Into the Past") I've got all the Terry Jacks that I need, because this best of collection has some really cool dark folk music that can't be found anywhere. Even that best of The Poppy Family isn't as good as this best of Terry Jacks that I've owned for more than 20 years.
But, I suppose you can sample songs on YouTube of many of his other cool songs like "Christina", "Hey Country Girl", "Holly", "Ghosts in Your Mind", "Y'Don't Fight the Sea", and various others. But, I would still buy this CD of "Seasons in the Sun" because it does have some songs that are not on my best of collection, and I did own the album back when I lived in Oregon. So, it's a great secondary disc to have in my collection.
If you're a Terry Jacks fan, see if you can find this CD called "....Into the Past". I know it's been out of print for more than 20 years, but who knows, maybe it's available in Canada. So, good luck.
