Having only photos of this & similar items to make my decision, I was glad I chose this one over the others for several reasons: The shape of the handle makes it easy to grasp & is sturdy. The blade is well hidden so you won't cut yourself unless you're absolutely talented enough to do so. I'm not about to try it out on my own car or anything else I own, so I started cutting the box that it came in...it sliced through cleanly & easily. I like that the hammer head is flat on one end & pointed on the other. I thought it was pointless to have dual points like other products. Oh yeah, the pointed tip on this one has a rubber cap so it won't scrape up your glove box. Good thinking! Lastly, I like that you are able to unscrew the plastic casing to remove & replace the razor blade if need be or do other things to the head. NO, it did NOT come with a mounting bracket, as other reviewers said, but personally I don't think I need one anyways. Highly recommended!

Ordered this because of reviews I had read.
Seemed to be just what I needed.
After it arrived went to a junk yard and tried it out
Works GREAT.
No mounting bracket but I have in with my
tools in the front seat.

Razor is sharp and can cut thru the seatbelt, however after watching some videos on youtube that showed this fail to break, i decided to head out to the junkyard and find an old window that wouldn't be missed. Glass may eventually break if struck hard enough in the right spot but i wasn't able to break the window and believe me it wasn't for lack of trying.

Def consider purchashing a more reputable item like the ResQ Me or a knife will a HARDENED carbide tip as this just doesn't seem to do the job.

This is the last item missing in my flight bag. I tried it of plexiglass, regular glass and seatbelt fabric and it worked as advertise. Minor investment, huge live saving capabilities.

A window breaker is not a device to take trivially. A device that looks like it works is not good enough. Many pointed steel "window breakers" don't work because the steel is not hard enough. Even with the steel point! If you want a usable steel tipped window breaker, it MUST have hardened steel. The company will advertise this. Better yet, the window breaker can be certified by a governing body such as TUV that will confirm that the product does work. If the steel is not hardened and has no certification, don't buy it, plain and simple. Buy carbide if not certified. Another option would be to use a quality center punch because it is hardened steel and pointed. Even spark plug ceramic works as it is super hard.

Whether the "reviewed" product is hardened and works well, I don't know. However, I suspect not. My one star review is intended to inform that there is a lot of junk out there. Decide for yourself what you want to buy, but you will not likely know if this works until you absolutely need it to work. I don't think it is worth the risk.

BTW...Lifehammers are hardened steel and TUV certified. ResQme is carbide. Many knives are made with carbide tips for this window breaking purpose (I have a Kershaw Responder). They all work great because they have carbide tips. The Choate breaker noted in one of the videos is hardened steel, but even this has trouble breaking windows. Enjoy these links.

Update*** This Emergency Escape Tool was tested by a Canadian volunteer fireman. Video of him testing this breaker, a Gerber knife (carbide) and a ResQme (carbide) was added.

I should've read the reviews closer before I added this to my purchase. It does not have the spring loaded glass breaking tool that it looks like it would. Its basically a little hammer. If I was stuck in my car, I doubt it would work to break my window. The blade of the knife is not sharp enough to cut a seat belt. I tried it with an old belt and it got stuck. Definitely will by the real escape tool.

Pure garbage. Dont rely on this to save your life. I tested on a bottle and the plastic broke and the striker fell inside the body. The striker is not solid. I didn't even strike very hard.

I liked the price, but ultimately returned the item. There is no indication that the steel is "hardened". I did some research and read that this is critical.....if it is not, then you could find out that the device does not break a window in a flooding/flooded car.

Hope to never need to know, but not worth the chance when you can get a certified hardened device for about $10 more.
