Cheap wheels: update 11/27/22
Update 11/27/22:I am updating my review and revising my rating in response to Seattle Sports exceptional (Five Stars!)customer service. The reason is that I contacted Seattle Sports directly and explained the problem. Even though they were not the seller, they were immediately responsive and shipped me replacement parts of better quality. There was a problem with the replacement shipment, and they addressed that promptly as well.I've since made two five-mile round trip portages to the river over the same forest trails as before. The product performed exceptionally well.Thank you to the Seattle Sports personnel who helped. You've won my brand loyalty.- Guy Clinch (Michelle's spouse)+++++ previous +++++For a number of reasons, it wasn't until yesterday that I finally got the chance to use my cart. I was on state forest trail coming back from a paddle on my local river as darkness fell. I was about halfway home when I started hearing a rattling noise. After about a little more distance as the noise increased, I stopped to look. The nuts on most of the wheel spokes had come loose. Several spokes had sheared off. Aided by my cellphone flashlight I hand tightened as many as I could. I had no choice but to continue. The photo above is what I found when I got home. Very disappointing. Amazon tells me that it's too late to return the product.

This kayak cart works great on my 12' Pelican Premium Enforcer 120X Angler. I have to take the kayak down a steep hill, and of course then back up this hill. The cart performs great up and down this hill, whereas other kayak carts did not. The adjustability of the bars make it easy to contour the kayak cart to fit your particular kayak. The wheels on the cart roll great, the structure of the cart is very solid, the height of this kayak cart allows you to roll over any terrain without bottoming out, and the kickstand is pretty useful as well. Here's a cool method I actually do to load and unload my kayak very easily using this cart. What I do is I actually submerge my kayak cart in the water and load and unload the kayak in the water. The bars on the cart allow the kayak to float right up on the cart just like you would a boat onto a boat trailer. This method really makes it a lot easier on you, and the kayak in the long run! If I had to pick one thing that I would change on the cart it would be the cam lock strap that is included with it. I replaced the cam lock strap with a ratchet strap (just don't over tighten the ratchet strap or you will deform or damage your kayak!). All in all, I highly recommend this kayak cart!

I have read all the reviews on different canoe carts prior to purchase and chose this cart, I must say I am more than happy with the cart and the purchase on Amazon. This cart is a snap to put togeather and is very easy to carry and store when not in use. I am 68 years old and I own a Town and Country Sportsman canoe that weighs 120 to 130 pounds without the 5 HP motor and it does a fantastic job of transporting the canoe with motor, gas tank and cooler with all rods and tackle. I have used this cart on rough terrain as well as the ramp areas of lakes and rivers. It works perfect in all areas due to the large tires and wheels and the well built construction. The Kick Stand is built to really work due to the "U" shape with a spring attached for storage or when in use. It is not just a single piece of metal for looks, like most carts. My wife is a small framed person and can push the cart with one hand with no problem as long as it is loaded and balanced correctly. I marked the canoe so that I can load it correctly each time. I would say the canoe would weigh about 200 + pounds when loaded and I am very happy with the performance of this cart and what it is built to do. I highly recommend buying this Seattle Sports ATC cart. I did not find a better one out there.

Bought this as a returned item with a good discount. Unfortunately the wheels had been previously assembled to the frame making the cart too wide for the box. As a result it was too badly damaged to use when I received it. The construction does look solid so I ordered a new cart after returning this one. Looks like the new one will be here in time for our long canoe portage this weekend - gotta love Prime shipping at a time like this!

Based on earlier comments re wheel problems I do plan on servicing and adjusting the wheel bearings before our first use. They appear to be standard steel rim bike wheels and should take all kinds of abuse when properly greased, adjusted and inflated.

UPDATE - The replacement cart arrived undamaged in plenty of time for our trip. As is common for production bike wheels they did need to be serviced. After greasing the bearings with waterproof grease and adjusting the hubs they perform well. Tire pressures were low. I inflated them to the max rating for the highest load capacity. I then attempted assembly as per the online video but it wasn't quite as simple as shown. The hinged wheel mount is intended to be put on and off the wheel with a hand nut for cart storage. The hinged mounts did not align well with the wheel axels making them too tight to remove by hand. I was able to gently 'tweak' the other wheel mount to get the alignment correct.

As others have noted the cart comes with cushioned rails mounted to rotate in for narrower boats. Reversing them allows them to rotate out for wider boats. I did this for our canoe; 2 bolts, nuts and washers were removed and replaced for each rail. The rails are kept from rotating with one wire loop pin each. I did add a second pin in the opposite end is each rail out of concern that a heavily loaded canoe may tweak the rails with just one pin.

We tested the now assembled cart with our 17 foot canoe. The one strap provided with the cart was clearly not going to be adequate for a partially loaded canoe on a bouncing portage. We used 4 straps; one at each corner of the cart secured to spreader bars in the canoe - very secure. The large kick stand is much nicer than the stick type you see on lighter duty carts. The canoe was well balanced on the cart and could be steered very easily.

At our first put in the cart unfolded smoothly, the partially loaded canoe attached securely and we were off. Along the portage we passed several others with lighter duty carts having mechanical issues. At the river we locked our folded cart to a tree alongside several others of the same brand, and took off. I do have to say how nice it was to have a cart waiting for us after a long paddle, esp with an upslope portage!

We've used the cart several times since with no issues. It performs well, is very stable on portages and is easy to store. The cart is sturdy and would be well suited for portages like those at Canada's Bowron Lakes. I would not recommend any cart for portages like you'll find in most of the Boundary Waters and Quiteco wilderness areas however. Canoes have thwarts for a reason - they're meant to be carried on your shoulders in the back country! With that said now that my wife and I are in our mid-sixties a cart is a luxury we intend to enjoy on most of our paddles.

I would have given the cart 5 stars but for the minor assembly issues.

I did note a few comments about rust. I have seen several older versions of this cart on recent portages none of which had rust. I do suscept that if the cart were stored out of doors or frequently submerged that it may develop rust as would a bicycle or similar piece of outdoor gear. I would not be concerned about rust if the cart is properly stored and not used for wet launches. I've never seen a wet launch but I suppose it would be tempting to roll a fully loaded boat into the water while attached to the cart. The put ins I use most are just not predictable enough to want to try this. I can envision the cart sinking into the muck under the weight of the loaded canoe!

This is the best trolley I’ve seen (and I’ve had several over the years). It seems sturdy. It is lightweight enough to be practical even in backcountry. The airless tires seem good. It seems to hold a good payload and the kickstand is actually functional. It Carrie’s everything from my Kayak to my canoe to my small rowboat. We’ll see how long overall this lasts…. But I’ve yet to see a better one.

it wants to spin on the one wheel when loading the Zodiac , other than that it is great. With all my fly fishing stuff, electric motor, battery, etc in the boat it moves very easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Cart Really Does the Trick
Reviewed in Canada on September 25, 2013
Love the cart! I'm new to kayaking, this being my first season and certainly one of the main concerns for me was how to transfer my kayak from a vehicle parking area to the water's edge. This cart was extremely easy to complete as far a assembly, is quite sturdy while still being light enough for easy transfer in and out of a vehicle. The attached brace is very handy for locking the cart in place while loading/unloading your kayak. I wasn't sure that I was buying the best cart for my kayaking requirements but am genuinely impressed with all of the features this unit offers and have not hesitated to recommend it highly to other kayakers/canoeists who see it and ask about it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fair Canoe Cart Suitable for Short Portages
Reviewed in Canada on August 23, 2018
I have used this cart with a 17' Kevlar canoe on a few short portages, and it has been fine. As other reviewers have noted, the tires are not as advertised. The tires that come with the cart are very cheap smooth tires. Furthermore, I had to replace the inner tubes as they both had slow leaks even before I used the cart. The way in which the cart was welded makes one of the wheels slightly out of alignment with the other wheel, although this hasn't make a noticeable difference when portaging the canoe.

Works great for moving my 18 foot canoe 300 feet from my garage to the river. The pneumatic tires roll easily on grass or gravel. Good quality construction. Its difficult to get the strap tight. A rachet type tie-down strap might be an improvement.
