The AIRBELT D4 is a powerful, yet ultra-quiet, canister vacuum, which features three on-board attachments, an unmatched 40-foot cord and 50-foot cleaning radius, rubber-coated wheels to protect floor surfaces, a durable telescopic tube with quick-release connections, and a full bag or clog indicator. Two sizes of its commercial- quality power head are available to deep clean carpets, and a parquet brush is included for cleaning hard floors. An ergonomically designed handle, which also has a suction adjustment switch, provides user comfort and effortless control of the power head’s 180° steering ability. The D4‘s tapered hose, along with its 320° rotating canister connection, improves airflow and provides smooth maneuverability, and its soft bumper protects the vacuum, furniture and walls from scuffs and scratches.

Two Power Head Widths, Amazing Steering Ability and Easy Brush Roller Removal – The ET-1 power head comes standard with the black and white colored machines, but when purchasing a red colored machine, there are two power head choices: the ET-1 (12-inch width) and the ET-2 (15-inch width). Both power heads have manual, four-level brush height adjustment, they effectively clean both carpets and hard floors and offer manual brush shut off, for use on delicate rugs or other floor types that require straight-suction cleaning. AIRBELT D4’S FILTRATION SYSTEM:

Bags are Better! Top-fill, three and four-layer bags are an integral part of SEBO’s filtration system because they hold virtually all dirt captured by the vacuum, which improves the effectiveness and useful life of the microfilters. They also ensure continuously strong suction because dirt enters from the top, deposits at the bottom, accumulates upward, and air exits through the sides, which allows unimpeded airflow as they fill to capacity. And they can be sealed when full, so no dust can escape into the air during bag removal and disposal.

Sebo bags unimpeded airflow as they fill to capacity In contrast, without bags to hold nearly all the captured dirt, the microfilters on bagless vacuums quickly clog from excessive dirt build-up and must be replaced often, or a loss of suction and cleaning effectiveness will occur. In addition, dust and other allergens become airborne when emptying bag-less dirt containers. Lastly, bagless vacuum microfilters are expensive, usually costing more than a multi-year supply of SEBO filter bags.

Pre-motor Filters – Pre-motor filters clean suction air after it passes through the filter bag, but before it passes over the vacuum motor. Cooling the motor with clean air is important because this increases useful life expectancy.

S-class Exhaust Microfilters – S-class Exhaust Microfilters (S =“Schwebstoff” = airborne particles) are made from electrostatically charged micro-fiber material, which attracts and captures dust particles from the airflow of the vacuum after it passes over the motor to cool it. This means that exhaust air is cleaned to the highest level. The S-class Standard requires filters to absorb greater than 99.9% of particles down to 0.3 microns in diameter. For comparison, 100 microns is the diameter of a human hair. I did tons of research and stressed ages over my decision but finally decided on the Sebo Airbelt D4. I was tracking my package with such anticipation and almost stayed home to just make sure the delivery person didn't leave such an expensive package in full view of the main road that I live on (they didn't). I opened up the large Amazon box to find another sealed shipping box inside but figured it was just secure packing. Finally got to the Sebo box and was bummed to find the foam pieces were broken and just sitting in there around the vacuum. Started taking everything out and was confused with a packing slip saying the pet accessories were not included from the drop shipment so there was an $90 credit to $809.10. My credit card was charged $899 but I wasn't expecting pet accessories (although that would be lovely). Then I noticed the electric head had worn marks and the bristles had obvious dust and pet hairs on them. The packing slip wasn't mine, it was the previous consumer's return of this machine which was apparently sent directly to me. The packing slip actually said she was returning because Miele did a better job on bare floors. Ugh! Now I'm questioning my decision to get the Sebo over a Miele and I have to pack it all back up and return it. I'll revise review to let everyone know how things were resolved.

11/1/13 - Everyone at Amazon.com was very helpful and I had no issues returning the used vacuum or receiving refunds including return shipping from HI. Since it was a 3rd party purchase, I couldn't just do an exchange and I would've had to repurchase the vacuum so I decided to check out the local Sebo dealer, who I discovered while waiting for my refunds. The vacuum I received didn't have the correct ET-1 powerhead and when I tried it at the local store I loved it. It self propelled itself so easily and the beater bar could be removed for cleaning with one button. It's a very sharp looking vacuum and I really liked it, but ultimately decided to get a Filter Queen. I have a high volume of dirt & hair with 3 pets and constantly open doors and jalousie windows, which allow a grit to blow into my home. I felt that while the Sebo was not quite as expensive as the Filter Queen, it would cost me more in the long run with expensive replacement bags, even though it has the largest bags I've come across. (I would have to dump my Dyson's upright's bin 2-3 times each cleaning time to give you and idea of how much dirt I have.)

The Filter Queen has 3 filters but no bags so it's fine for me but probably not a good choice for those with sensitive allergies. The filters and bags of the Sebo were high quality.

I also liked the larger accessories of the Filter Queen since I have much pet hair to vacuum off furniture. The upholstery brush of the Sebo was quite small.

I was concerned with the much shorter cord of the Filter Queen but it's about the same of my previous Dyson so no big deal. I'm sure the cord retractor is also handy but the Filter Queen is designed with a little rim around the canister where the cord tucks under and the plug clips onto the rim.

While I didn't end up getting a Sebo D4, I was impressed with them and the customer service of Amazon so I felt that I should update my review to help other power researchers.

Great Vacuum, carpets love it!

I should preface this by saying my previous experience with high dollar vacuums is a20+ year old Kirby my mom bought when I was a kid. Still working to this day. So before this purchase my thought process on vacuum quality hierarchy went something like this: KirbyDysonHigh dollar Walmart vacuums and then everything else at Walmart. How wrong I was.
My previous Wal-Mart purchase of a vacuum (Dirt Devil) lasted just over 3 years, often fraught with unexplainable clogs, difficult to clean brush rollers, nasty bin emptying, you name it. After it died recently I said to myself “I’m not paying 20 dollars to fix a five dollar vacuum”. I did some research and came across the Reddit AMA about vacuums and found out how wrong I was about the vacuum quality hierarchy.
With the information I discovered I pulled the trigger on the SEBO. I sometimes think “maybe I should have gotten the Miele”? I guess I’ll never know, that being said I am very happy with this vacuum so far. It’s surpassed my expectation thus far. As the cost is so high, as compared to a Wal-Mart vacuum, I decided against a pro vs con review and will talk about each of the major components individually. Let’s get started.

Canister
Design:
Overall the look is ok, this is of course a personal choice, but in my mind a vacuum lives in the closet and then is brought out to clean carpets. So long as it does that I am happy, it could be a rectangle for all I care!..lol. I guess the only time design is important is when it interferes with the function of the unit. I don’t really like the black glossy finish, it looks nice for sure but it will show dust pretty easily and the hose rubbing the unit will eventually cause scratches.
Cord Retractor and Cord:
The cord retractor seems to work ok; I haven’t had problems retracting the cord so far with the exception on one time where it didn’t rewind all the way. I just pulled it back out a bit and it retracted fully. I’ll report back later on how it holds up.
Another review on here mentions the cords being a small gauge wire. I happen to agree; this probably was done to keep the side of the retractor small. That being said make sure you pull the cord out on small increments and don’t just pull the cord across the room to rewind. The manual mentioned pulling out 20 feet of cord before using the unit. No doubt this is to help prevent heat buildup.
Power button:
Works as designed, although I’d be wary to slamming your foot down on it to turn it on. Be gentle!
Bag Compartment and Filters:
The lid for the filter bag compartment has a catch to hold it open. I’m unsure how this will hold up over a decade or two. In the attached video you can see what I’m talking about. The latch holds the lid closed tightly and has a nice return spring action. I put my brightest headlamp in the bag compartment to see if I could detect any light leakage, no light was seen. Not a scientific test but still a pretty good one. On most videos it’s not obvious how the premotor filter is held in. After looking at it it’s well secured and should present no problems. I’ve attached an image of how it’s attached so you can see for yourself.
The filter bags are easy to change and the ultra-bags seem to filter ok. There is a small amount of dust in the bag compartment after a couple of days of use but nothing too serious. The mounting point for the filter bags seems plenty sturdy and should present no problems over time.
The compartment for the exhaust filter is easy to open and has a nice big seal on it. A few black specks in here but from what I understand these are from the motor.
Accessories
Nothing really to say about these except to say that they are sturdy. I mainly use the crevice tool and it does its job perfectly. The tool storage at the back of the machine holds the tools firmly.
Hose and Handle Assembly:
This hose could pull double duty as a fire hose! An exaggeration to be sure but it is massive and should hold up pretty well so long as you don’t try to jump rope with it or tie it in knots. I’ve heard all kinds of theories about the tapered hose but it seems to me that the taper will help prevent clogs. Both ends of the hose attach firmly with a nice ‘click’. The wire at the top is sturdy and should last quite a while as long as you don’t go out of your way to pull on it.
The handle is comfortable for me and I’ve had no problems with the suctions level buttons. Pressing minus key several times will lower the suction level and eventually shut off the machine. The canister will still be on, pressing the plus sign will turn the motor back on the lowest level and eventually the highest level.
Powerhead and Wand
The wand is metal and plastic. The plastic part of the wand feels pretty substantial and I couldn’t detect any deflection during use. Extending the wand was easy and again made a satisfying ‘click’ when locked. Adjusting was as easy as pushing the button and extending or retracting as required. Pictures of all the different adjustment buttons are attached.
The powerhead is glorious! After using it over my raggedy, matted down carpet the pile was standing at attention waiting for instructions, looks so much better. I love the ability to remove and clean the brush roller without doing surgery. Easy to remove and easy to reinsert. On the highest suction level the canister is quieter than any other vacuum I’ve used and the powerhead is quiet as well. You can carry on a conversation with someone across the room without yelling.
The height adjustment worked as you might expect and the foot mount for the handle does as well. The one minus for the powerhead is the ridiculous switch! It’s almost like the ‘pump up to turn on’ breakers from Jurassic park. No satisfying ‘click’ here, just turn the machine on to see if the brush roller is on or not.

Suction:
Sorry not going to play the suction contest or do crazy parlor tricks to convince you. For my carpet and as compared to the previous vacuum I had it’s amazing. Most importantly I feel that my carpet is clean and that the dust is well contained in the machine.
Overall:
Now that I’ve rambled on for over a thousand words, hopefully I’ve brought something to the table that was unknown to you. Hopefully this review will help you make a decision on whether or not to purchase this vacuum. Would I buy this again…tough call. I think the real question is “Am I happy enough with the SEBO to forgo searching for something that may or may not be better”? I think the answer to that question is yes.
