The good: I loved the hero! I find in contemporary romances, I identify more with the heroes than the leading ladies. I found this hero to be well written, he definitely retained his maleness! I also loved the setting, the author did a great job keeping both the Montana feel and the Australian flavor. I want to go to Broome! She also did a great job with secondary characters, and with giving this a complete story and ending. Not often the case with series books.
The bad: A few things are brought up and dropped or never explained. Mitch, our hero, has a sister and apparently something awful happened to her. She is mentioned, is the catalyst for how the hero reacts to Scarlette, but we never know the what or why of it. I think the author missed a great opportunity, even a few sentences would have helped. I also think she missed the mark on some of the character attitudes towards sex. How and why the characters meet initially is a pretty shocking situation, even by today's moral attitude. I dont think Scarlette was as concerned about it as she would be, and why he was there is never talked about between the two of them, but they did talk about why she was ther. I think that is something ANY woman would be wanting to know going forward in a relationship.
Overall: I have enjoyed each book in the series as I have read them. This was a quick read, but fun. You do not have to have read the other book to enjoy this one, they are all independent. I would recommend this to contemporary romance readers who want a quick read and enjoy hot guys and interesting settings.
I really enjoyed the fact the book was set in Australia since it's my dream vacation destination! I really enjoyed the scenery descriptions, especially the Stairs to the Moon in Broome.
Scarlett has a twin sister and all her life she felt that her sister Tara is the responsible one and the "good" twin while her life is a mess and she keeps making bad decisions since she is very spontaneous and she never stop to think about the consequences of her actions.
One of Scarlett bad decisions left her broke in Australia with no way to buy a ticket back home to Montana and that is how she end up in a brothel where she meet Mitch.
I don't want to give too much of the plot so I'll just say that I enjoyed reading about Mitch and Scarlett, they both made mistakes in their past and they are trying to overcome them.
The only thing that bothered me while reading Second Chance Bride was the fact that Mitch mentioned having a sister and I felt like there is a story about how she died since he said that because of her he stopped to help Scarlett and I just wish I could have more info about her.
I just saw that Scarlett twin sister, Tara is going to have her own story soon and I can't wait to read it.
I liked Scarlett and Mitch, at times I found myself relating to Scarlett when she confessed to being impulsive and felt like she wasn't as good as her sister. However, there were a few moments where I was shaking my head at her actions. For example, she flew all the way to Australia to meet a guy she'd been chatting with online, she even bought a wedding dress thinking they'd get married. As for Mitch, I loved the way he treat Scarlett and showered her with gifts, he's definitely your typical romantic guy. The author spent a great deal of time talking about Mitch's past with his ex, however I would've loved to learn more about his family. He mentions his mother and his sister, briefly, but I think it would've helped develop his character if readers knew more about him.
My one critique of the book is that it was too short and the ending seemed to move by too fast. I think it would've been better if the author delved more into the characters pasts and their feelings for each other. Also, I would've preferred if she let more time progress before giving Mitch and Scarlett their happy ending.
