After her dad was killed for unknown reasons near his ranch, Amber Belott returned to Chance, California so she could aid her mom in keeping his business from going under. Her father trained dogs to follow orders, from those who are classified as working animals to even pets. Unfortunately, Amber knows nothing about getting a dog capable of assisting a professional or even just listening to its owner, so she must employ the right person to keep clients coming to K-9 Ranch.
When Evan Colluro comes for an interview and to demonstrate his methods, Amber quickly comprehends he is the best candidate to keep her dad’s dream thriving. He had previously trained dogs in the military, and his knowledge will certainly come in handy. Her new employee tries to prove his worth right from the start, and the dog training classes appear to be going well. Yet the unsolved murder of Amber’s father has her and Evan worried and wanting answers.
Though neither Amber or Evan are thinking about getting into a relationship, there is a surprising spark between them from their first meeting. Since the attraction only increases with every new interaction, they start to care about the welfare of each other. With numerous unknowns related to the killing of her father, this couple must be cautious until the facts are exposed. It was interesting to see how they would react to the many different situations that arose, especially Evan since he was suffering PTSD because of events while he served his country. The author had me empathizing with him on several occasions, and these times were often touching. Amber was heartbroken over the death of her father, and it sometimes affected the way in which she responded to someone. SECOND CHANCE SOLDIER is often emotional plus constantly engaging.
I was thoroughly entertained by all the wonderful dogs featured throughout the story, as their enthusiastic behavior had me smiling while I saw their intelligence as very admirable. Linda O. Johnston has dogs of her own, and it showed in the accuracy of the storyline when dealing with these wonderful animals. The K-9 Ranch Rescue miniseries is off to a compelling start.
I voluntarily reviewed the book, and all comments are my honest opinion
