Not very exciting.
Characterization was inconsistent because one minute Rose fears that Ryan no longer loves her, the next she's absolutely certain of Ryan's love ("Whatever other problems they might have, knowing Ryan loved her wasn't one of them. She never doubted Ryan adored her")--and then she goes back to being worried that he's losing interest in her or going to leave her. That made no sense at all. Not only that, we're TOLD that he's been distant and withdrawn, but what I SEE is an affectionate husband who tells her he loves her and shows it, so I didn't get that sense of distance between the two. They share passion and laughter and I don't get the feeling that Ryan has been holding a part of himself back from Rose. In fact, I really liked the dynamic between the couple; it was beautiful to watch. This alone nearly earned the book an extra star, but I decided the paranormal aspect of the plot just seemed too jarring and poorly thought out... so two stars it is.
I would read more of this author's work because I loved loved loved the way she wrote Ryan and Rose's relationship (yes, I know I said that already!). I could really feel the connection and love between them, which is exactly what I look for in a romance novel.
Giving his brother a Second Chance helps him find peace in a strange twist of fate with a little help from his friend and a strange inn keeper. Although not based on reality Second Chance is a delightful story about faith and finding peace.
