"Darynda Jones perfectly balances humor and suspense in [this] paranormal thriller." ―Publishers Weekly (starred review)
When Charley and Cookie, her best friend slash receptionist, have to track down a missing woman, the case is not quite as open and shut as they anticipate. Meanwhile, Reyes Alexander Farrow (otherwise known as the Son of Satan. Yes. Literally.) has left his corporeal body because he's being tortured by demons who want to lure Charley closer. But Reyes can't let that happen. Because if the demons get to Charley, they'll have a portal to heaven. And if they have a portal to heaven…well, let's just say it wouldn't be pretty.
"This is an amazing book and a fantastic series! Similar to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series only ten times better!" ―Night Owl Reviews
Can Charley handle hot nights with Reyes and even hotter days tracking down a missing woman? Can she keep those she loves out of harm's way? And is there enough coffee and chocolate in the world to fuel her as she does?

Charlie is still learning to be the grim reaper, each day is a new challenge. But Each day someone is still trying to kill her, and her dad literally put a bullseye on her also. Charlie is on the hunt for her fiery hot lover's body while his ghostly body is creating Charlie a non-stop mission to figure out where he would hide the body. Not to mention that Charlie told Cookie about the dead man that's hanging around in Cookie's trunk of her car. Second case. Third case is finding a missing women and the person or persons behind the missing woman and a bunch of her former classmate's coming up dead. A lot going on for Charlie and her group of people that wonder why they haven't had her committed yet.
All of those cases intertwine in this investigation. Charley is her usual fear-free self. She doesn't seem to have any sense of self-preservation as she confronts criminals of all sorts of descriptions on her quest to find Mimi and save Reyes.
This book was laugh out loud funny which is unusual in the urban fantasy genre. I enjoyed every minute of this story and can't wait to read more of Charley's adventures.
Charley finds herself involved in a missing persons case. The person, Mimi, sends Charley a distressed call via Charley's receptionist/best friend, Cookie. The ladies find mysterious messages, and a frantic husband at the meeting location, but, no Mimi. The husband, Warren soon finds himself arrested for not only his wife's disappearance, but also a man his wife knew in high school who has been found murdered. Looking into the case Charley finds even more mysteries.
As to Charley's personal life, Reyes, her romantic interest, and by the way, Son of Satan, literally, has taken up haunting Charley, as he finds leaving his body a necessity to save Charley. Time is of the essence for both situations and Charley pulls out all stops utilizing her mortal and deceased friends to aid her in her quests.
This is an adult book, but that being said, there is humor, a creative view of the supernatural, and a darn good mystery. This novel is for open minded persons.
I look forward to reading the next in the series.
The last chapters are flooring, and the continued interaction between Charlotte and Reyes is incredibly intense on so many levels. I want so much for these 2 to have a shot at being together, as in living together in a domestic corporeal human way, but the more I learn the more my head tells me it can never happen.
I can't wait to read the next installment: Third Grave Dead Ahead.
