Viewing inspiring videos first thing in the morning had become part of my morning ritual. So had watching past my allotted time for it. The 5 - has been a game changer - especially when getting moving is important.
We lost our only child just before her 15th birthday to suicide. I found her, administered CPR and an ordeal with a coma ensued. The aftermath is a journey through grief leaving me with many issues. The simple became difficult and PTSD is what the doctors said I was experiencing.
The 5 Second rule has helped me stay on tasks, get going in the morning, find my mind when it feels gone, and focus on my business. Best of all - happiness and hope are a big part of my life AGAIN! The 5 has helped me feel alive when I needed it.
The 5 Second Rule is full of nuggets of wisdom, from Mel Robbins overcoming her fear of flying, public speaking, to waking up early.
Some of my favorite quotes from the book are:
-"You validate your ideas by pursuing them."
-"If you're going to doubt something, doubt your limits."
-"Logically, we know what we should do, but our feelings about doing it make our decision for us."
-"If you only act when you feel like it, you will never get what you want."
I enjoyed this book and have begun putting it to work by implementing the thirty minute challenge. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to make a positive change with a little everyday courage.
I would have given this book a fifth star, but I was disappointed in one thing: the lack of citations from all the research the author did concerning the techniques and strategies she lays out. For many readers this won't matter, but I am the type that likes to understand the science behind such things. That said, the rule itself is simple, and the examples Robbins supplies from the many people who have benefited by it speak for themselves. I honestly believe that this book could be just what most people who are stuck in unsatisfactory lives need to get themselves unstuck.
