On her part, Brynne Jacobs hated the effect that Kane had on her, she hated the trouble that her brother Sam, seemed to get into every time Kane was around, and she hated that her father saw Kane as the favourite son. She just hated Kane. Then Sam was lost to them all, and yep, she blamed Kane. That hatred took her to his door on the first anniversary of Sam’s death, attraction made her stay, and self-disgust made her leave and not contact him for over a year. Guilt made her come, with a son.
What she doesn’t realise is the secret her brother kept close to his chest, and what her Father and Kane wouldn’t share. Now Kane is sick of being seen as the bad guy, because there’s more at stake – the future he wants with his son, and his son’s mother. Brynne doesn’t want a bar of it, but Kane is playing the long game – for keeps.
There is plenty more than just the hot relationship between Kane and Brynne going on in this book. We see a cameo visit from Carter Bennett (Second Draft) and he’s loving life with his family, and we meet Kane’s sister, who, I’m hoping is going to lead into another book from CM Seabrook (!). I absolutely adored theme of forgiveness, acceptance, and moving on to new beginnings, and highly recommend Second Shot to anyone who loves hot sports romances, secret babies and a must-have HEA. 5 Stars from this happy reader!
Second Shot is absolutely no exception. I adored Kane and Brynne. The chemistry between these two was combustible. Their story was about letting go of the past, however difficult that may be, letting go of misplaced guilt, accepting that people are not always what they initially appear to be, taking chances and moving forward to share in a love that was always meant to be. Throw in a baby and I’m lost to the dream of love, life and family.
I love the banter back and forth between this couple. Kane’s alpha ways and take-charge attitude when secrets are revealed had my heart doing tons of pitter pattering not to mention a little heavy breathing…
Brynne’s stubborn ways were sometimes frustrating but understandable given the circumstances. She had me laughing out loud more than once. My most favorite, funniest part was when the “news” was broken spontaneously to Brynne’s father and Kane’s reaction to that. Priceless!!!
I fell in love with the previous book, Second Draft and I thought that would be hard to beat. The author gives us a run for our money and delivers a fantastic read that I WILL read again and again.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book but I also purchased my own copy.
One year later, Kane is an angry man. He hasn't heard from Brynne after she walked out...and he's not touched (or even thought about) another woman, either. Kane had always cared about Brynne, all the way back to when they first met when she was in high school. But she was always off limits, being the coach's daughter and his best friend's sister. After practice, Kane gets drunk and heads to the cemetery - and what he sees shocks him.
Brynne has a secret that can't be hidden much longer. That night with Kane left her with a big responsibilty - she now has a 3 month old son who looks just like his father. She goes to the cemetery and while she's visiting her mother's and brother's graves, Kane comes stumbling over - drunk. When Kane confronts her, the secret she'd been keeping comes to light. When Kane really sees her baby, he knows it's his. Brynne is scared that Kane will want nothing to do with Noah, their son.
What surprises Kane is that after the shock of finding out he has a son, he realizes he wants to be a father...and he wants to be a family with Noah and Brynne. I absolutely loved this story! It was not just a sweet second chance romance with some hot scenes - it dealt with drugs, mental health, family, anger, betrayal, and ultimately, a selfish hockey player becoming a man who takes care of his responsibilities.
