Love is unkind.
Love is selfish.
I know better than anyone else. Having made the mistake once before, I refuse to give myself to anyone, body or mind. My heart isn’t even an option. Fresh out of college, I plan to spend my final summer home in the small town of Aurora, New Hampshire with my loving, flighty mother and old friends, my eyes set on the future. That’s before I’m welcomed home by a beautifully flawed drifter, in search of his own. It’s hardly love at first sight. More like loathe. He creeps under my skin from the moment he refuses to acknowledge my existence.
But, it’s hard to deny there’s something in the way he watches me, the way his presence calms and electrifies me, bringing something dead inside to life again. He’s been jaded by his own loss and heartache. It’s burned into his very being. I want to know Holt Turner—and that terrifies me to death.
A STANDALONE NOVEL.

These two absolutely made theirselves at home. They are complicated, raw, messy and so damn real with all of their faults.
The saying “you can never go home” doesn’t apply to Violet (Evie). She’s home from college and things aren’t as they appear. Her mother is cleaning and cooking. There’s a boy living in her studio and the boy she loved since preschool is back home too. The town folks all stare and whisper. She’s got a secret of her own that’s a game changer.
Holt has been living the nomad life for too long. He’s fine with it though, he’s never really felt the need to stay in one place... when a lady takes pity on him and makes a deal.. food and board for help repairing and keeping up her property, he figures it’s a good place to rest till he’s ready to start moving on again..until he see’s her picture. The girl in the pictures all over the house.
Then she’s there.. can they both break the walls they’ve built to see what more life has for them?
This is probably my favorite book from this author and that’s saying something because I’m a huge fan. Definitely a 5 Star must read!
My main problem with it is the drifter hero, who spent his backstory free of attachment, and now he runs around glaring and insulting the Main Character, being generally hostile, manipulative and socially unacceptable, and then grabbing MC for vigorous (but not graphic, thankfully) hate-sex. Suddenly (after the MC deals with her main, unrelated problems) HEA. The MC has a small character arc, in that she only changes a little from the beginning to the end, but that's the focus of the story; Mr. hero has to undergo a huge character change (manipulative, noncommittal, hostile --> honest, generous, devoted) for MC to get her HEA, but it comes off as an abrupt change. Did he start taking a really strong medication or something?
TL;DR: an anti-hero that I had come to understand, if only because I could see how he would sabotage his own happiness, was suddenly possessed by HEA romance gods. I didn't love him (I would have, as a teenager), but he didn't deserve that.
If the other elements of the story were worse, I wouldn't bat an eye at wishful-thinking, bad-boy-turned-good-suddenly author antics, but this was almost a legitimate bit of literature. As it is, it's still a good read, but I won't remember it.
Not only did the story flow and keep my interest, so did the characters. There was no point in this story when I felt as though any character lacked depth, feeling, or even a storyline. Everyone had a place and a purpose and added something special. I found myself really rooting for some and really despising others.
At its core, this is a love story. But, it's not your typical and predictable love story. There's something here for everyone...with just the right amount of heat to get your heart racing. I look forward to so much more from this author...she's a great new talent and she can tell a story like few others I've read. Bravo, Aubrey! When's the next one coming out?
I loved the characters in this book....Holt was so special and dear to my heart I fell in love with him instantly....loved the quotes and illustrations as well....a very good read, very well written with a HEA ending. Loved it☺

Flash forward 4 years and Evie is returning home for the summer months after finishing uni and until she can start her new life in New York, but she wasn't prepared for what she would find when she returned, not only is there a complete stranger(who is HOT, and intriguing) living in her family's home. Aidan has returned home for good too and can't wait to have a chance of making things right between them.
This is a story about trying to heal from the past and moving forward to finally have a life she always dreamed about. Can either of these two men break down the wall she has built up to protect herself from getting hurt again by the men in her life.

Violet wakes up alone after giving her virginity to Aiden's before returning to college. She's back home now with her secrets.
Holt was taken in by violets mum he'd nowhere to live she needed household repairs & help however, he has scars & secrets
Two lost souls with secrets.
Aiden has also returned home along with mikayla aidens clingy ex can things get worse?
