The Secret of Ella and Micha is an Adult Contemporary novel by Jessica Sorensen. The novel is about Ella Daniels, a young woman who disappears from the small town she grew up in an attempt to change who she is and who she might become. Leaving everything behind, including her real personality, Ella changes from a girl with a strong attitude to someone who is detached from the world, she pretends to be the total opposite of who she truly is. However, she has to return to her hometown for summer break and in doing so she must answer to those who she left behind. Micha is Ella's best friend, the one and only person Ella ever truly felt comfortable with and whom she shared all her secrets too (and he to her). However, the boundaries of their friendship were blurring just before she left. During her stay Ella must try to remain detached from everyone she ever knew and must not allow her feelings for Micha to resurface. Doing otherwise could jeopardize all she worked for. This novel is rated mature for sexual content.
Sorensen did an amazing job portraying a situation that a lot of people go through, young and old. This novel to me is about self-fulfillment, of finding yourself, accepting who you are and not allowing the environment in which you grew up in to define you. It is about love (romantic, steamy love) and friendship. Ella is part of a broken family and through the novel she learns to cope and work on making it better. I like this novel because of its deeper meaning. It tells that broken families are not just for the poor. I also love the relationship between Ella and Micha. Their friendship and, later, their love for each other, give the novel an added bonus. It has great character depth, every character was well portrayed. I
Overall, I truly enjoyed this novel.

Micha is officially my new book boyfriend!!! Ok, now that that is said... I won an ecopy of this book from the author and started reading it Friday night. I read a little and then went to bed. The next morning I picked it back up and DID NOT put it down until I was done and I may have pissed my husband off because of it!!! ;)

The Secret of Ella and Micah is one of those books that you can't stop reading because you just need to know what will happen next. At every chapter I would say to myself, "I will take a break after this chapter" but I couldn't!!
Ella and Micha have been best friends for many years and they both come from a rough part of town. Both have had things happen in their childhood that affected who they are and this story is about how they can overcome them.

Ella deep down is a sweet girl with a good heart and means well with the things she does but the people who love her don't understand why she does what she does. I felt that she truly never meant to hurt anyone. I think she underestimated how much and how many people loved her. She would not let them help her. How many people at age 18 or 19 can say that they have gone through all this girl has?? Not many!!! I think she dealt with it all the only way she knew how.

Micah....Oh, Micah!!! This guy is sooooo sweet and SEXY!!! I don't have a clue how Ella was able to keep her hands off of him for as long as she did!! He never gave up on her and that just melted my heart :) Don't get me wrong....he had problems of his own and he made mistakes too (one that made me yell at him) but everyone makes mistakes and what matters is how you bounce back from them.

There were so many more characters in this story that I feel like are very important but I would ruin it if I went on about all of them. All you have to do is buy and read it and you will understand why I loved Micha...oh, I mean... loved this story so much ;)

This book has a little bit of everything, angst, heartbreak, loss, friendship and romance. It's a story about a childhood friendship that changes and grows into something much more than either Ella or Micha expected.

One of the many things I enjoyed about the books was Ella. She's one bad-ass heroine who doesn't take any crap and I love her for that! I love that she's sexy, a tomboy AND she knew about cars! I can't change a tire to save my life!!! And even though she tries desperately to change who she is, the real her starts to resurface (thank goodness).

Ella's relationship with Micha is so special that I couldn't help but root for them to make it as a couple despite their tough upbringing and the ugliness that plagues their life. There are moments that I thought were so sweet that I got a little choked-up, especially when Micha tries to get Ella away from the bridge. That was heart breaking and I loved every minute of it. Micha is rough and tough (or so he seems because he's really not) but he's also a musician who cares for Ella so deeply that he's willing to sacrifice his dream for her. *sigh* Yep, he's totally dreamy! The supporting characters, Ethan and Lila are equally as awesome. Lila is a total princess who meets Mr. Grease Monkey himself. A beautiful supporting couple indeed!!!

The book moves at a good pace but two topics that are focal point in the book, bipolar disorder and suicide were completely glossed over. Those are heavy issues that could have been explored a lot more but since it wasn't, it left me feeling somewhat unfulfilled. I want to understand why a character is the way she is and not left on my own to figure it out.
