The first four chapters of this book are dedicated to helping the reader discover how to work with signs and symbols in waking life as well as the dreamtime. The bulk of the book is a remarkable dream dictionary which gives a great starting point in working with symbols, but is not so specific as to be either limiting or ridiculous.
I find Miss Linn's writing enjoyable and easy to understand and would highly recommend this wonderful book for both the beginning and advanced dreamworker.
Rather than just providing individual definitions, she teaches you how to interpret things for yourself so if you come across something that is not listed in this extensive guide, you will be able to find your own meaning.
I've used this book extensively for my personal life and in helping others. The only drawback is that once other people take a look at it, they want to take the book home with them!
I've had my copy for almost ten years now and still use it to this day. I've even had a few dreams I thought would be impossible to make sense of, but after using The Secret Language of Signs found peace and understanding in them.
I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand their dreamlife or who is noticing "things" around them in every day life and would like to figure out their messages.
The interpretations provided within make sense and are collected from a wide variety of sources and are easy to use no matter what your spiritual or cultural background is.
There are a lot more signs than just a funeral. The lil bird outside your window every morning could be a sign too.

I've been a believer in Signs for at least 25 years. I don't believe in coincidence but I wanted a different perspective. A "fresh eye".
Denise is a master at attuning to signs and what they're trying to tell us. She has spent years with indigenous people all over the world as well as living in a Zen Buddhist Monastery for several years. Denise is Cherokee so she also has family experience in honoring omens and signs.
The Universe is always sending signs but each individual "picks up on" the one meant specifically for them. Let me explain - 2 people can see the same butterfly. One will take it as a sign of renewal, transformation and beauty. The person standing right next to her/him will see it as a sign from a passed loved one who said they would send a butterfly (perhaps a specific kind) to show they crossed safely. Each person is correct. It's like witnessing any experience in life. Every person has their own, personal view. AND - maybe there was a 3rd person - right next to the other 2 who didn't notice the butterfly at all.
Denise explains how to calm down and be open to receiving signs. How to interpret them. You can even designate a sign you'd like to see. At one time, I designated dragons. A short time after, I saw dragons where I least expected them.
Signs may also come by overhearing other peoples conversations. Freudian slips, anything you think is a mistake may actually be a sign.
There's a Sign Dictionary in the back of the book but Denise reminds the reader to take into account personal feelings about each subject/sign.
I enjoyed "The Secret Language of Signs" because it's not cut and dry. It's about possibility and becoming attuned to the help - through signs - that is Always there, if we just pay attention.
