Bought this book for my mom, she just had surgery yesterday and she is a huge GH fan. I got the book thinking she could read it while off work. She is NOT an avid reader, but she hasn't book the book down since I gave it to her. She loves it! Some reviewer said whoever wrote this book must not watch GH, actually the author is on GH. Carolyn Hennesy plays Diane Miller on the show. Yes the book can be a little confusing, but its suppose to be in Spinelli's language. Its not suppose to portray GH characters 100%. These are Spinelli's imaginary stories and how he sees the characters. So yes they will talk a little differently in the book than on the show. He is taking the characters and shinning a different light on them. Its not for everyone, but if you know what the book is going to be like maybe you wont be disappointed. Other readers seem like they weren't fully aware of what the book was going to be like so maybe that's why they are so disappointed. Like I said my mom loves it. She likes seeing familiar characters and seeing them differently.

As a huge fan of the Character of Damian Spinelli and General Hospital I throughly enjoyed this book. It was a departure from the usual storyline that is actually on the show with a lot more fantasy which is at the core of who the Character of Spinelli is. I wish the show itself would use more creative license to go this route with their storylines for Spinelli.

Carolyn Henessey depicted Spinelli well but I feel at times she may have utilized too many cliche references to Film Noir or old movie classics. I like the utilization of it because that is a technique that is used on General Hospital when Spinelli is in PI mode but i think she went a little overboard. But all and all her writing made me laugh and I had a good time reading it.

This book, whether you enjoyed it or not, was a tribute to a wonderful and unique character that only could be developed on a Soap. Soaps are all about fantasy and it is a genre that should be celebrated...Buy the book if only to show how much you love Soaps and hope that you will be able to watch for some more years to come.

My special thanks go to Bradford Anderson without whom this character would be as flat as a piece of paper. Damian Spinelli is a success due to his creative and talented nature...Im glad i read the book and would recommend to all who are fans of Soaps....

So based on the many reviews I read, this book was clearly a "pass" and were I not an avid GH fan, I just might have. Complaints pretty much reigned along the line of the characters being written out of character and the language of the protagonist being too difficult to understand. With that said, I gulped and still made my purchase, thinking that even if this book was as bad as the naysayers said it was, I loved GH enough to own the book simply as a collectible and memorabilia if nothing else. Yes, I wanted to be able to enjoy the book as well and had hoped that my favorites would be written decently, at the least.

I did not expect to be BLOWN AWAY.

Call me dramatic if you will, but having read all the reviews and then tackling this book, I can easily say that my expectations were not too high. But alas, good literature prevails. And interestingly, alot of the criticism that I had read slowly began to come to mind as I went throughout the book and the reasons to support the writing style and story plots slowly became clear.

Firstly, anyone who is familiar with the character of Damian Spinelli knows that he speaks in the most interesting vernacular. Additionally, if you'd been watching the show, the promotional scenes of Detective Spinelli pretty much gave the viewer an idea of how this new character would both function and speak. I went into reading the book with knowledge that this PI character was a fantasy conjured up by a wiz-kid genius who wished he were him. An over-the-top suaveness as well as a dramatic masculinity coupled with the adoration of the town's women who were now the damsels in distress, and you've pretty much got the Jackal as a PI.

I watch GH every day, double record it, in fact, so that I don't miss any. I was really eager to read this book. But it's silly. It doesn't even sound like Spinelli, let alone the GH characters he discusses. It's almost an insult to my favorite soap opera.

One of the reasons that I was so disappointed is that I love Diane Miller, and Carolyn Hennesy, and I won't look at either the same way now.

I did review Ms. Hennesy's first Pandora book for our HOA newletter and found it charming. I wish she could have brought the same charm to the Spinelli book. -- Pat

Damian Spinelli is one of my favorite General Hospital characters. He is the main reason I bought the book. I think its portrayer Bradford Anderson is an amazingly talented actor. I really am hoping to see a storyline soon involving the character of Spinelli. I miss seeing his adorable face on my TV screen at least several times a week. This book helped me get through what has been a very long 'Spinelli' draught. I would love if it would turn out that Diane was in fact, Spinelli's mother. Carolyn & Bradford play off each other wonderfully on screen and Carolyn (the author of the book) captured that perfectly.

I ordered my copy through Amazon and when I got it, it smelled funky. Maybe it was near mold or mildew. They smell is just finally starting to go away (weeks later). I seriously could only read a few pages or a chapter at a time. I would gag on it when reading. The book isn't very long. No way should it have taken me a week to read it.

The book is different; one has to remember it's all in Spinelli's head so anything could happen. I didn't like that he knows Maxie is a whore and yet he stays with her and continues you let her do whatever she wants with whomever she wants. Should have kicked her cheating butt to the curb and of course in his mind all the ladies want a piece of the Jackal, just should be more reality then fantasy (on the show and perhaps in the next book).

I enjoyed some chapters more than others. My favorite chapters were Luke/Tracy, Jason/Sam, Lucky/Elizabeth and Johnny/Olivia. One thing I didn't like was all the pauses with the ... it got kind of annoying.

I would love to see a book two, but at the same time I would love to see it also include real PI cases Spinelli has worked on, that we can see him acting out on screen.
