Bombed out churches, lost treasurers, and broken dreams assemble the foundation of this uplifting chronicle. The inhumanities of World War II are exposed and the character of one young man who finds himself on the wrong side of what he believes is the crux of the tale. If he can make a difference, right one wrong, he can keep up his charade.
In this poignant love story commingled with the horrors of war, Lee Carver’s brilliantly exhibited talent shines through. A Secret Life is a must read for all, but plan to stay up late because you can’t put it down.
Lee Carver's book is a must-read. Throughout the book she weaves many historical and geographical facts that help the reader to understand the dark forces that were at work in Germany and throughout Europe during World War II. The main character, Karl von Steuben, becomes the focal point of the book as he struggles with many very difficult situations that tear him from his family and his homeland, but throughout the book he continues to call upon the Lord to help him work through issues that seem impossible to overcome, and with the help of the Lord, he is able to begin to rebuild his pre-wartime life.
Once the reader begins reading the book, the reader will not be able to put the book down. The story is woven through the threads of time and will take the reader through a very difficult period of time but will also inspire the reader to know that the Lord has a plan for each of our lives.
One of the many things I appreciated about "A Secret Life," is how characters were introduced into the plot, and then how fast the story moved along. No one will ever get bored while reading this book.
Thank you, Lee. Please keep writing.
