The images are sometimes confusing due to the black and white print. It really doesn't offer that much in terms of secrets and you have to pay close attention not to miss details. Many images and text are redundant and they refer to the sprite as a female. Not to well done for something that back in the day cost around a third of what the game would retail for.

It's a good guide, it's very detailed. A little complicated in the way it's set up but you get used to it. One thing I wish this guide had but doesn't is color. I know it sounds nitpicky but it really makes a big difference in a strategy guide. All in all it's a very solid guide for one of the best games on the SNES.

This strategy guide is written as a story. If you read it closely you'll find what you need to. It doesn't give specific instructions. As in go left to find a secret chest. It will say the young hero searched and found a hidden chest.. or they summoned jinn to do extra damage. Makes for an interesting read.. but a sub par guide.

Book was a big help in playing the game. Found out things that I did not know about the game.

Good guide for a good game. Though this game came out years ago, I'm still playing it. And although I don't need the guide, I recently bought this to complete my collection, plus as reference for the various weapons that can be found throughout the lengthy adventure.
Let's be clear on a few things.
Number one, this guide is not in full color as the cover might advertise. Unlike nearly every other guide from the era, the book is printed almost exclusively in black-and-white screenshots and maps, and sometimes this affects the quality of the image, such as the chapter headings andin darker images where detail is lost. Perhaps they were trying to save money by printing without color? This is the only reason why I gave the guide a four-star rating; in a game so rich with imagery that is meant to evoke the beauty of nature in a world where technology can destroy the very universe and the power of nature, to display those images in stark black and white images really kills the theme of the game. While the images are still functional for navigating the game's various maps and worlds, this guide is the exception in fine printing when nearly every other guide printed - at least from 1990 to 1999 (and nowadays, in all honesty) was printed in full color, high gloss and exceptional detail and clarity. Though there are a few maps in the middle of the book, they are small and could have been much better produced.
Number two, this is a guide book, not an answer key. It doesn't hold your hand too closely. The book will give you hints, but not always as clearly as you might like. Instead of saying 'spam fire magic' it might say 'the sprite found fire spells useful against this boss." In an indirect manner, it will tell you where to go, but not always what to do when you get there.
Number three, as a reference manual it has one good thing but also lacks one thing. Throughout the guide it covers the cycle for the weapon upgrades and has a full bestiary for bosses and everyday monsters, though the bosses are in full color the other monsters are not. I had hoped this guide had a full list of armor, and it does not. So you might try GameFaqs for an armor list. (Or do what I do and compile your own.)
Lastly, I think this is the only guide that might have been available at the time. I've seen several 'unofficial' copies, and a cover for a Nintendo Power one - which might've been the one I was looking for at first - but since the game came out nearly 20 years ago, chances of finding a good copy might be difficult.
Overall, if you're a fan of retro SNES games and think you need a copy of this guide, this is the one to get. Just be aware that it's not up to the standards of most other game guides, such as those produced by Brady, Nintendo Power. Though it is produced by Prima Games, it's not up to standard.
