She was surprised at the humor and teachings in the books and found herself finishing both in less than a week. We'd read on our Kindles together, and she'd giggle at something and then put her hand on my arm and say, "Mom, you've got to hear this!" She'd then read a section and laugh. Or maybe she'd read something and say, "That wasn't very nice, was it?!? She should not have done that."
These books made her THINK about her faith in action. She also read books 3-4 and responded the same way, so I just purchased books 5-10, plus Chopsticks and Red Velvet by the same author.
Wanting to look good for her first time at youth group, Tess "borrows" her mom's earings. Okay, so maybe she should have asked, but it can't be that bad, right? Until she loses them...
Heart to Heart holds two stories of a sixth-grader Tess, who struggles with problems many tween girls face. What should one do when the girl who promised to be friends forever turns your back on you? Is it okay to hurt others, but then make it up later? Can you earn forgiveness? Sandra Byrd weaves lessons of faith into Tess's life. By the end of the second story, Tess has given her life to God. At times it felt like the scenes were too "ordinary" and didn't contribute to the story much. However, this is still a book that can propel tweens and young teens to live out their faith.
This is the first volume in the Secret Sisters series. The rest are Accidental Angel, Double Dare, Backdoor Bridesmaid, Camp Cowgirl, and Picture Perfect.
Tess is a girl who is caught up in all the drama that comes with being in the 6th grade. When her confidence is low she seeks solace with her best friend who turns out to not be a real friend at all. This is one of the many lessons she learns in this book. She is a nice girl who starts to build her self esteem and when new and true friends come along she knows who they are and to value them.
In the second segment: Her new best friend Erin introduces Tess to god and she begins to discover new feelings for Tom, Erin's brother. She also learns a new and valuable lesson when she borrows her mother's earrings to a dance and they go missing.
I liked that once again Tess is learning who she is and just what she is made of. Her support system this time around consists of a new best friend Erin. Erin has a strong faith in god and brings in a new element to the story. There are a lot of situations and feelings that young girls can relate here. Over all a great book and a wonderful start to this series.
