Very interesting read. This is not a conspiracy theory but a history of known secret societies. A must read for all those who assume they know about who and how runs the world based on popular conspiracy books and youtube videos. This is not an easy read - the book was written in England early in the 20th century, so be ready to use dictionary because it's full of archaic words. Nevertheless, this is a very interesting and worthy of reading and re-reading work.

This forgotten gem of a book has recently been put up on Amazon Kindle for free. I would urge history buffs to take advantage of this and read this book published nearly 100 years ago yet more relevant now than ever before. Webster’s personal writing style combined with documentation paint a picture of modern European History that is quite at odds with “standard” histories from the time of Mohamed forward.
Webster sets out to take a survey of the origins of secret societies. Interestingly it begins with the chapter on ‘The Ancient Secret Tradition’ which goes into some detail on the origins of the Talmud and Cabala; this sets the stage and the pattern for Secret Societies. There is also treatment of the Gnostics and Essenes. ‘The Revolt against Islam’ the next chapter which details the various secret societies that burrowed their way into Islamic societies only to be discovered by the Northern European Crusaders who promptly adopted many of the key features of the secret societies of the middle east.
A Depressing continuum in this history is the prevalence of a “chosenist” (my phrase) ideology through the ages. In many ways you could replace the word chosenist with the phrase ‘organized psychopaths’. Basically an “in group” decides that they are to be the masters of the universe, dare I say ‘god like’, and everyone else is just goyim/cattle/dumb masses to be used and abused as necessary.
Pre-existing secret societies are ideal breading grounds for still more secret sects and that is the story behind the Bavarian Illuminati and its role in the French Revolution and beyond. Continental Freemasonry gets tagged with being completely penetrated by other secret societies, while Ms. Webster holds out hope (in the 1920’s) that British Freemasonry can be salvaged.

Even though this book was written decades ago, it is as relevant today, as it was then. Fantastic historian, and incredibly well-documented research.

This book gives you an understanding of how secret societies are what they are. They don't really tell you much about what goes on behind closed doors because they are in fact secret societies. Its a great book to pick up though

A great book to learn and educate yourself on the real people who rule our nation and world. Their plans are frightening and the only way to not let yourself be sucked into their games is to wake up to the lies and books like these are exactly for that. The Author is honest and sites FACTS not theories which can sometimes be simple opinions.

The book is motivated by Christian ideals and political opinion, it is slow and sometimes confusing. I did gain some usefull knowledge on the questions I had regarding the variouse clubs & secret societies, the lenths that members will go in a quest of wealth, power and supposed knowledge. I gained a better understanding of the puppetry at work on the stage of the World. The bits of enlightment made the sometimes painfull read worthwhile.

So this book is like a thesis paper for someones PHD studies. Not a novel, not all that entertaining, but seems historically correct and well researched. No assumptions written into the text. No conspiracy theory, just facts.

It sheds some light on some secret societies. It gives the reader insight and answers a lot of prevailing questions that can be useful based on the reader's unbiased perspective.
