SECRETS CANBE DEADLY, by Nancy Roe, is a well-written book that held my interestthroughout. I found it difficult to put it down and, as a result, read it wellinto the night. Nancy Roe does an excellent job in establishing the charactersslowly, and in advancing the plot with ever more enticing details. Her writingis taut in places, creating tension in the plot and the reader. The dialoguehelps define the characters and moves the plot along. This book is a real pageturner, and the author creates the tension without resorting to unnecessaryviolence. I've rarely found a novel where the writing is as controlled andwhere the author accomplishes exactly what she wants to do without resorting tomelodrama. Also, her use of details makes the scenes come to life. I loved thedetails about the villain and how she resorted to little tricks to get theresult she wanted. It seems so real! Here is an author who takes real lifesituations, stirs in fleshed-out believable characters, adds simply greatdialogue, and keeps the reader awake past bedtime. Perhaps it is the Iowalocation that makes it all work so well. This novel is altogether a good read, and I look forward to reading more from this author.
