There's dark and sinister things afoot, and someone is out to take away the HEA from Nox and Livvy. Who it is and what's their motive for the horrible things happening is something you're trying to figure out through the whole book. And believe me when I say it's gonna have you turning page after page trying to figure out this mystery. So much so that I stayed up til 3am trying to finish the book so I could finally find out who was behind it all. Sadly sleep won the war and I had to finish reading the next day. But it does have some surprising twists and turns that will keep you guessing the whole way through.
I'm not going to go into anything for fear of ruining some surprises (which I hate!), but I will say I did really enjoy this book. It was a lot darker than I expected, but in the end it was really good and definitely worth the read!
If you're looking for a feel good Christmas romance this book is not for you! BUT...If you don't mind reading a Christmas romance (and I use that term VERY lightly, hence the 4🌟 instead of 5.) that has a darker and sinister feel, that will keep you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out the villian. Than this is the book for you! I definitely recommend giving it a shot. I don't think you'll be disappointed!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
And then ...
And then the FMC had to do the stupidest thing which totally yanked me back out of the story because it made no sense and only paved the way for her to be a risk and the dramatic ending. It. Ruined. The. Story!
*After all the murders and assaults, after she is attacked twice and he is shot in the head, and they leave on a vacation during the holidays and she has already agreed to quit her job, she ... wait a minute. This is turning into the longest run on sentence ever. Start again. On the day they return from Europe there is another nasty, threatening note. There is blood and gore and a multilated cow found in the cellar. Someone has been killing women in Nox's life with a knife. Brutally stabbing them and she has been trapped and threatened by this slasher twice already. So on this horrible day when it's all up in her face she insists she needs to go into work. Because it's the holidays still and she doesn't want to leave them short staffed. She is a waitress. Yup, a waitress. She's evidently irreplaceable at work. Waitresses are so hard to find. It's a job worth dying for. Great tips I guess.
So, yeah, I'm done. If the writer expects me to fall for that weak plot line then I see no reason to continue. TSTL indeed. Blew the credibility to shreds. It was totally out of character for her too. smh
But it seems like there’s always a snake in the garden, and so it is with Nox and Livia’s perfect romance. Threatening notes begin to appear, warning Livia away from Nox. Threats escalate to violence as Nox and Livia begin to realize that someone within their circle of friends is not who they seem to be.
Many elements in this novel combine to make it an incredible read. All of the characters are unique and richly developed, not just our two main lovers. The natural ease Nox and Livia share is a joy to witness and complements their fiery passion strikingly. The reader’s emotions get a full workout between Nox’s tragic past, a romantic getaway, mysterious events, friendships (true or deceitful), and a romance for the ages. There’s no doubt-- this is a must-read.
