The only thing that might have changed is the titles subhead "How to Make $100,000 a Year or More" might have an even greater emphasis on MORE!
As the back cover of the paperback claims, with no exaggeration, and knowing Bob with extreme modesty, "Secrets of a Freelance Writer has long been the authoritative guide to making big money as a commercial freelance writer...
writing ads, annual reports, brochures, catalogs, newsletters, direct mail, web pages, CD's, press releases and other projects for corporations, small business,.....etc."
It is valuable for the brand new freelancer as well as a veteran copywriter looking for extra ways to make an income.
With testimonials by the greats such as Joe Vitale and Ray Edwards all I can say is pickup a copy for yourself today and see why this book is just that good!
Rarely is there a business book that gives you information without at least subtly trying to get you to "level-up" into the next pay tier of the author's offerings. Even rarer is the business book that skips the "rah-rah" motivational content and just tells you what you need to hear. This book checks off both of those boxes.
One con I noticed, is that some of the technology he mentions when discussing computers, software, etc is very outdated. I think he actually talks about a floppy disk at one point.
*Note
I've applied one of the ideas mentioned in the book as a proposal to a client within days of reading and I expect a big project. Worth it.
Bly has done a fantastic job of handing over a foundation for starting a career as a freelance copywriter. Whether or not you make $100K (or more) per year is entirely up to you and the dedication and discipline you bring to the table, but this book will certainly give you a starting place for building your portfolio, finding your first clients, and getting into the waters of this career.
This book also very closely mirrors Peter Bowerman's Well-Fed Writer with much of the same content. That's not necessarily a bad thing and just adds confirmation to the advice being given.
I wont begin to talk about what you might take away from this book. Different people are going to take away different ideas. But suffice it to say, you WILL learn a lot here. Even though this plate has leftover vegetables, the meat is hot off the grill.
