About the Author

Many authors claim to have known their calling from a young age. Liz Schulte, however, didn't always want to be an author. In fact, she had no clue. Liz wanted to be a veterinarian, then she wanted to be a lawyer, then she wanted to be a criminal profiler. In a valiant effort to keep from becoming Walter Mitty, Liz put pen to paper and began writing her first novel. It was at that moment she realized this is what she was meant to do. As a scribe she could be all of those things and so much more. When Liz isn’t writing or on social networks she is inflicting movie quotes and trivia on people, reading, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. Liz is a Midwest girl through and through, though she would be perfectly happy never having to shovel her driveway again. She has a love for all things spooky, supernatural, and snarky. Her favorite authors range from Edgar Allen Poe to Joseph Heller to Jane Austen to Jim Butcher and everything in between. Come visit Liz online. I can't really complain because I got this Kindle book for free. The story began in a very intriguing fashion and it held my interest for the most part. However, after the main character had "angsted" (if there is such a word) over the identity of the "hot bad boy" multiple times, I had gotten my fill of that and wanted the story to just "get on" with itself. I got impatient with the story line at that point, because the same intrigues kept getting replayed in lieu of more story developments. I was also annoyed by how often words were completely omitted requiring me to fill them in on my own (are there no good proof readers left on the planet?). When I finally reached the end of the book, I felt totally cheated by the ending. I HATED HOW IT ENDED. All in all, I consider reading this book a waste of my time because (1) the story could have been told in fewer pages and (2) because of (1), I won't be reading the sequels. My apologies to the author and any lovers of this book, but I love to read and am not usually hard to please. That said, I had to share my honest opinion with others. :(

I enjoyed the story and the characters in this novel very much. It had some great new twists which made it both interesting and compelling. The protagonists were well developed and likable, the kind you find yourself becoming invested in. The writing was smooth and the flow was very good.

But, and this is a big one, why the repeating of entire conversations from two different characters point of view? It was as if the author just copy/pasted from one chapter to another. I kept looking at it and saying "didn't I just read these exact words" and going back, I had. If this had happened once I would have written it off as an editing error, but it was throughout the novel. Not only distracting but off-putting. However, if things like that don't bother you, or you just don't notice, it's a good story and worth the read.

I'm at 64% of the book read and I am done. This book started out great, had me hooked by page 2, but now at more than 50% of the book, I can no longer go on. I still dont know what Olivia,Holden or Quintus is. The relationship between Olivia and Holden is dragging, with Holden's I want her but because I want her I need to stay away from her. In my opinion we the reader already know they are in danger so let's just get to it and stop the tug of war, going back and forth.

The typographical errors are a bit much and I have to reread and insert the words that go in the sentence to even make sense...Overall I give it a 3, the storyline is good however very dragged out and if you can wait to the end to find out what is going on, then you will enjoy this book. Up to the point I read, it did not have any sexual inuendo and it had some harsh foul language, demons, and suicide themes....I would not recommend this book for a teenager or a Christian reader....

There were a ton of things I adored about this book. Number one was the characters. Even in a situation that goes above our own comprehension of reality, Liz managed to create believable, lovable characters that you will celebrate in their triumphs and sob in their defeat. The friendship between Olivia and Juliet almost reflected perfectly the relationship between M and myself. And if you love a great bad boy, you'll be swooning over Holden. Second, I loved the format of the book. It switches back and forth from Olivia to Holden's perspective which gives so much more of an understanding and insight. From Olivia's side where she's fighting to figure out what's going on to Holden's where he struggles with himself and how to deal with his newfound emotions.

But what do you do when you're faced with only three decisions about the direction of your life and none of them seem to be in your best interest? That is exactly where Liv finds herself and her decision is one that truly exceeds anything I think I could handle if placed in her situation.

It was a bit frustrating going through the book not knowing what was going on with the underlining story, but with a title like Secrets you can't ask for much else! But when the truth bursts through and comes to light it's a pretty awesome spin on the paranormal genre. I want to go into so many more details, but I don't want to give anything away about this novel because this is one you absolutely want to read. I'm very happy Liz decided to take her hand at writing the paranormal genre and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

I believe I downloaded this book to my Kindle as a freebie, but it would have been worth a full-priced premium paranormal romance any day! It hooked me at the first chapter and had me going to the end. The author does a great job of stringing you along without revealing the type of creatures you are dealing with until you are well into the book. (I didn't read the description before reading the book and it had been awhile since I selected the book so that I wasn't sure what to expect.) I don't want to give anything away, but I would highly recommend this book to anyone. My one distraction was it appeared the editing was done by spell checker and not read for context - this is a pet peeve of mine that will usually cause me to put down a book, but the story was so good that I made an exception and read it anyway.
