I seem to be a collector of low-carb cookbooks and such, and Maria's Secrets to a Healthy Metabolism is probably the one that has the most information as to WHY things work the way that they do. The book took me a few days to read and I feel that I have done my own research through the years that I know a lot of information about health, but this book went a little bit more in-depth of what I needed to know the most about my body and how to deal with it. I love living high-fat, low-carb. I've tried high protein in the past, but never high fat, and so I'm glad I finally bought the book.
Why only four stars, then? I think what would have made this a 5-star book was based from two things: writing errors and a few recipes included in the book would have been really great. For a $9.99 Kindle book, though, I can overlook the spelling errors. I would not have been comfortable buying a book for $25.00 with errors in it, however. Kindle, okay. The book also references recipes that can be found on the blog or in another book, and I think it would have been super nice if some of those recipes could have been found in an appendix.
With that being said, I am not disappointed in the book, and I do plan on buying more of her books in the future.
As for the weight loss portion, I am not extremely overweight, yet I lost 16 pounds and several inches in the first three weeks following Maria’s advice. I felt so much better and more energized. I had always subscribed to the illusion that you needed to drastically cut your calories and go fat free to lose weight – yet I had always ended up feeling tired, gross and hungry! And I would always gain the weight back. No longer – eating lots of healthy fats and proteins, like Maria suggests, makes you feel full, satisfied and it’s great for your body.
If you’re looking for a healthy and EFFECTIVE way to live your life, lose weight and feel good – than Maria’s book is for you. This is not a quick fix and you’re done; Maria’s book is about a positive lifestyle change. Don’t deprive yourself – education yourself and lose that weight.
Maria actually explains everything very informatively, but also effectively so the average person can understand it. Furthermore, she has easy to read charts at the end of the chapters so visually it's easier to read and understand as well!
Not only is this book informative, but it's also interesting! I found myself saying aloud, "Wow?? Really??" quite often.
For my own part, thanks to Maria's help, I've altered my diet slightly and added in some much needed supplements. The result is more energy, weight loss, and not feeling deprived, and curbing my EMOTIONAL EATING (by adding just one important supplement that I can no longer live without!).
Knowledge is power...and this book will provide that.
Worth every penny!!!
