I really loved this book. It reminded me of other books that were intense leading up to the last paragraph for the kill, and leave you with your jaw dropped to the floor just wanting one last sentence to give closure. Not all stories have to end in a perfect little package tied with a bow. Secrets and Lace was a well structured and kept me captive.
Unfortunately I was disappointed with book 2 & 3. They seemed to be rushed and didn't have the fluidity as the first book. Granted there were mental battles and severe abuse, but it didn't have to drag out really leading to nowhere soon until, all of a sudden, the knight and shining armor comes to her rescue, Owen.
I was already annoyed with book 2, unaware how much more annoyed I'd become with the final book. During Chloe's and Owens race to safety they declare their love and feelings. So we're running for our lives, but let's take the time out to discuss our feelings. Instead of thinking about, over and over, her new found feelings for Owen, think about saving your bu**. The family that lived on the island was wasted space. It takes days to try and get to safety, but once Alvin caught up, he was able to drag Chloe back in a day.
I kept thinking there has to be some crazy twist. Like somehow Owen was actually Alvin, and took advantage of his friends illness to get revenge. When she found out who was taking care of Alvin, I for sure thought that'd be some kind of clue to reveal a twist. But no. Once again the story was lingering on for too long. When things were finally coming to an end, loose ends were mended; within a couple of sentences. The author could've expanded those discussions a bit more. Some parts dragged on and some parts were rushed. Secrets and Tears along with Secrets and Scars, in my opinion, were a completely different voice.
Honestly, I think Secrets and Lace should've been a standalone. The rest of the series could've been another book on its own with different characters.
Sometimes less is more.
I would read other books by Dori Lavelle. I would just make sure to read the reviews which I normally do not do.
Thank you so much to Kitty Kats Crazy About Books And Dori Lavelle for sending me an ARC of Secrets and Lace!! I'm very honored and grateful!!
After having read the Prologue i was instantly hooked and i couldn't turn away from my Kindle. I was scared and on my toes for most of the duration of the story. It was gory, terrifying at times, and so suspenseful. This was such a unique concept of a story and i felt like i was reading something that could easily be made into a Thriller. I kept trying to figure everything out and why someone was doing what they were doing. There are so many emotions that i went through while reading this that at some points i had to put my hand over my heart to calm the beating due to how intense it was throughout. That ending left me in total shock and I have never wanted another continuation of a story as much as i do to this particular one!! Secrets and Tears can't come soon enough!! Ms.Lavelle you are an evil genius and i can't wait to see how everything turns out.
Chloe Parker was a character that made a living out of exposing others dirty secrets until one day her past came back to haunt her. She was sweet and very kind when she wanted to be. I was very anxious to find out all about her past and secrets. Her journey to finding out the person behind her torment was a thrill ride and often times bone chilling. Chole's caring side that she showed to her mom was so sweet and heartwarming after everything was cleared up. Fingers crossed that everything goes right for her in the next Installment even though danger is always where you least expect it.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a read that will keep you guessing until the very end! It was everything i wanted it to be and more! This book is full of surprises and how ones past never stays buried deep for long. In this story actions have consequences and they just might be deadly. One-click this Thriller today!! You won't regret it!! :) 5 Stars all around!!
*secrets, lies, and mystery, 3 stars*
Kelly left home right after graduation and never went back. She did everything she could to hide her old life including changing her name to Chole. What does one do when they are hiding secrets of their own? Dig up other peoples dirty laundry of course.
When blood soaked lace starts randomly appearing with a count down to her wedding Chole is afraid her past is finally catching up to her. So what does one do in this situation do? Go home of course to where it all started. Only the threat may be a whole lot closer then she realizes.
I enjoyed Secrets and Lace. The only thing I didn’t care for was the fact this book ends on a cliffhanger. I personally would have liked for the full story upfront, but thats just me and my personal preference. I do plan on reading the next installment.
If you read a lot of mysteries then you will probably pick up on who Choles stalker is around half way through the book. With that said you should still enjoy this book. There were a few twists that I didnt see coming. Secrets and Lace is well written which is always nice.
Here are a few quotes from the book I liked;
“My fiancé, my husband, was a man who didn't exist. He was never real.”
“By the time I’m done with you, you’ll wish you were never born. It’s best you prepare yourself.”
Writing style- 3/5
