In the story we come in to see a broken girl who just wants to know why her fiancé left her. Why she wasn’t good enough for him. Why she doesn’t fit in with her family or anywhere for that matter. Never fully understanding why she doesn’t feel like she doesn’t belong, which is a feeling most people have felt at least once in their lives. But then we see as it all changes one night when she meets Marsh. He turns her world upside down and sends her on even more of a roller coaster as she now has two guys battling for her love and she doesn’t really know which to flood with her affection. Her heart wants Marsh, but it’s hard to love someone who vanishes like the rolling tide. But the other man is just as bad for her as we come to find out at the end of the story- which I’ll say is a total mind blower that I didn’t see coming.
Now when it comes to Marsh I had to stop myself from yelling at Juliet so many times. She didn’t just go for it, and the way he’s described it sounds like most girls would take any chance they could get to be with him. He was a total dreamboat, and reminded me a lot of my husband. Especially as much as he chases after Juliet, even when she tells him not to. He’s stubborn and goes after her because he loves her. He fights for her, because he loves her. Which is great when it comes to romance in books because it if’s just sex and no romance or actual showing of the love I feel it isn’t love but lust. Here I felt the love between both Juliet and Marsh and I screamed at both of them constantly because they wouldn’t own up to it.
And for me to say that I’m yelling at characters and am on the edge of my seat with anticipation, means that I absolutely loved this book. I can’t wait for the next one and look forward to reading it soon. I’m dying to know what happens next because I need to know what comes next.
They pierce your eyes, slam into your imagination, and pull you so far in that when the book is over you’re left feeling as if you’re still in the world she created. Marsh and Juliet are the cutest couple, endearingly relatable, and their love is the kind little girls dream about—without the people trying to kill them, of course.
And her bad guy. Oh. My. Goodness. Seriously. I was left wanting to run Robert over, hide Marsh and Juliet under my bed until they were safe. Robert is so freaking twisted, which is on one hand perfect, and on the other...well, there was more than one occasion where, were he a real person, I would be tempted to run him over instead of put up with him. And what’s so great about that is that there ARE people in this world, as I said above, just like him, making Robert the perfect demented little rendition of the evil side of humanity.
All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a refreshing twist on the typical paranormal romance tale. E.H. Demeter delivers in a BIG way, and is sure to leave everyone waiting with bated breath for her next novel!
The villain was masterfully horrible, and I loved him as a bad guy, just as much as I cheered for his death whenever he popped up on a page.
I've read this book three times since purchasing, and each time I STILL get sucked into the story. The author's words flow like water, cresting, ebbing, flowing across the pages with grace, eloquence, and occasional swells and crashes against the rocky shore, wrapping the reader in a world unlike any they've ever known.
E.H. Demeter is an author to watch and root for. She's an up-and-coming talent that everyone should get to know. I'm so impressed with this work that there will be nothing from her I won't read!
