David is trying to avoid going to the companies Secret Santa holiday party. He has been having a hard time with a coworker Marc and was hoping to avoid him and his group of friends. Unfortunately Davids boss comes to collect him and informs David that CJ is this years Santa. Now David has another reason to not want to join in on the holiday fun.
CJ hasn't been working for the company very long. The two would see each other around the office, but it was in the office buildings gym that David really enjoyed seeing CJ. One day 6 months prior to the holiday party,
--- “CJ entered the locker room after his workout. He stared at David and discovered his deepest secret.”---
Unfortunately for David, CJ reacts badly,
--- “CJ turned away, flushed dark, excused himself, and almost raced from the room”---
David and CJ are nice and likable characters. I didn't always like the way either characters spoke, and I felt like they both seemed a lot younger. I had several unanswered questions even for a short quick read making it feel rushed.
Character Development: 3.5
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
This is a story about accepting that not everything that everyone is thinking about our secret selves is negative. CJ and David have some talking to do and they have a sizzling connection, so definitely a HFN story with so much possibility.
For such a short story, it had some great character development and gave a sense of the office environment where these guys worked, complete with good and bad guys. Just a good read!
I enjoyed reading about David and CJ sorting out their differences, and the build up to a lovely HFN ending. Also, it was nice that the bullies were going to get their comeuppance. The story was only short, and felt like a prequel to further developments. It would be nice to read as to whether or not David and CJ actually get their HEA. Three and a half stars.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
