From Secrets of Spiritual Happiness:
"With spiritual happiness, you are not waiting to be rich before you can be happy, or to find the right person to be happy, or to have more friends to be happy. You don't need to look different to be spiritually happy; nor do you have to heal all your flaws to be spiritually happy. With spiritual happiness, you can look at the world with realistic eyes -- seeing, experiencing, and responding to all the muddled mess that life can sometimes seem to be. Yet, in the depths of your being, you'll know a peacefulness and contentment that never fades, even while the world may be crashing down around you." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

then you will love Secrets of Spiritual Happiness. This book is full of practical wisdom to advance your life experience. Sharon Janis comes off as a true spiritual guide. You can open this book at any place and find words of wisdom. For me that is the true measure of a great book.
Next, get her wonderful "textbook"..Spirituality for Dummies. If you're at all "into" this sort of spiritual examination, it's essential.
However, there are three reasons I cannot give this book a perfect rating:
1) I think the author could have attempted to better explain the mechanics and science behind gaining happiness. This would have made the book even more credible. For example, I might have found the content of the book to be considerably less credible were it not for personal experience.
2) There are central terms in the book that are not defined or that do not seem to be explained.
3) The author could have made references (at least clearer references) to the big picture concerning religion, philosophy, and spirituality, in order to make readers understand how the author's ideas are consistent with (or inconsistent with) other existing theories.
All of my objections could be criticized, given that the book is possibly intended to be "an easy read" that should steer clear of complications. However, when doing something as important as presenting a normative ethical theory, which can certainly have great impact on people's lives, I believe it is just fair to expect a more substantial background in the introduction of the book, which covers the big picture and possibly an explanation to why the book will not meet the expectations of good philosophy (see points (1) and (2))...
... Then again, I will humble myself and say that I might have a more analytical/philosophical approach to spiritual issues than does Sharon Janis, and that it is ultimately a question of highly subjective values that make me think the book is somewhat lacking.
