Fortunately the author is a devotee of travel who happens to have more expertise than most of us on how to travel for free or cheaply and is willing to share his knowledge to those of us with the same wanderlust. The standard of writing is high as the author uses lively colloquial language in this helpful step-by-step guide. His advice: how you can travel the world practically free while having a rich, rewarding travel experience.
The cynical among us might assume that this is merely another account of a globe-trotting writer's journeys after he took what can often be a leap of faith to leave his job. Instead the author offers relevant tips and tricks to traveling practically free including recommendations on credit card rewards and points to information on airline frequent flyer programs. This book is an easy read with its conversational style and makes for a wonderful accompaniment to an evening in an armchair or better yet in front of the computer to put those tips to use.
If you are looking for a good read, I recommend you download Secrets of a Travel Ninja. I look forward to seeing what the author serves up next.
I especially like that it's a short, quick read, and that it immediately gets to the point and delivers what it promised. I like its concise how-to format, and that it is sprinkled with useful caveats, and some humorous side comments that are not only entertaining, but also keep the reader on track. Amir West, clearly a very savvy traveler, is very clear about the book's intent, and to whom it might be most useful. The language is casual and the tricks are simple, but you have to pay attention.
Whether you are someone with limited funds and average credit, or someone with abundant resources and above-average credit, SECRETS OF A TRAVEL NINJA will make you feel like, "Wow. I could do this, too!" and "Hmmm. Who knew?"
If you've ever put your travel plans and dreams on hold because of money, wait no more. Read this book, implement the tips, and start packing! You'll be on your way in no time. This book is good stuff.
I found out about Amir through the Scanpower Facebook Group (a group dedicated towards retail arbitrage aka buying from Wal Mart/retail stores to flip on eBay or Amazon for a profit). After reading some great recommendations from the author in the Scanpower group I decided to give his book a try...I was not one bit disappointed.
The book is narrated from the authors point of view and has a very down to earth tone to it. The author explains how he got into traveling, experiments he has conducted with friends (who didn't necessarily have great credit scores) and strategies for earning the maximum amount of points/miles. Although much of this information has been discussed in various forums on internet the author manages to give a fresh view on how to earn the most points as well as some outside the box ideas that I rarely see mentioned on the most well known travel hack blogs.
Before reading this book my focus was mostly on earning free domestic flights but the author points out that International flights which would normally be way more expensive can be earned very easily without much more effort vs earning free domestic trips. I also did not think to try and earn free hotel stays to accompany my free flights but now see this can easily be attained. The author also lists quite a few excellent resources as well as information for staying in contact with him to discuss the latest updates in the world of credit card maximization.
I want to point out, I have Amazon prime as well as a Kindle and I borrowed this book using the Kindle Lending Library. The book was so informative I decided this was a must have for future reference so I bought a copy to be able to read any time. This book is a must read for anyone looking for an insight into how to achieve rewarding results for their efforts. Whether you're a complete newbie or experienced rewards accumulator, the author has a very unique perspective towards traveling the world as inexpensively as possible that anyone will benefit from. 5 stars!
