Update 11-8-15: The electronics have failed. Awaiting feedback from the seller. Reducing from 5 stars to 1 star for now. Standby...
A number of reviews describe failure of the electronics. Mine has not failed for two and a half years, and I use it often. I see that Amazon offers a three year warranty for 9 bucks and I would take that if I bought another one.
You might consider getting a spare lid or at least spare gaskets to use for savory versus non-savory foods. After cooking jambalaya, the gasket retains some onion and garlic smell. That did not seem to bother the final flavor of the bread pudding I next made. But I can imagine it might at some point. So I am switching gaskets for savory versus non-savory foods.
I cooked three dishes with this the first day I had it. Mexican rice, Creole chicken, and a big pot of McCann's steel cut Irish oats. The speed is amazing, a few minutes of prep, a few minutes in the cooker and a few minutes to de-pressurize. It is truly awesome on the steel cut oatmeal, normally you have to stand there for about an hour stirring every few moments. With the Secura, I dumped in the oats and the water at bedtime, and set the timer to cook the oatmeal for 5 minutes at 6:30 this morning. When we got up the oatmeal was perfectly done, the pot had depressurized and it was ready to eat!!! That is really unheard of. With a small kitchen here at the office, I can prep and cook all or part of dinner while at work. I bought two extra gaskets so I won't have to scramble for them when the time comes. Check out hippresure dot com for tons of info on pressure cooking, (that's not a typo on hippresure, two p's.) Also missvickie dot com; another excellent pressure cooking website. Miss Vickie is not keen on electric pressure cookers but it is still a super resource. I really wish I had been using this cooker for the last 25 years, but glad to have it now. It will change your cooking life.
We had chicken Alfredo, from frozen chicken breasts in 15 minutes. Chicken wild rice soup in 40 minutes. We have had curry chicken thighs with a jar of Trader Joe's Green Curry Simmer Sauce, it was fabulous in 15 minutes.
Then there is the amazing stock that this multi cooker makes. Using the carcass of a rotisserie chicken, 12 cups of water, an onion, 2 carrots, celery, bay leaf and peppercorns we had stock for chicken soup in 50 minutes. It was amazing!
The stainless steel cooking pot is very heavy and great quality. This is a great cooker! You will not be disappointed!
While we love our slow cooker, the food out of this appliance is so flavorful and doesn't take large amounts of prep time!
I was a little worried about the quality before getting it since I've never heard of this brand before, but I have to say this thing is solid - built like a tank.
I found I've had to reduce the amount of water for rice, but I've heard that's expected with pressure cookers. One slight annoyance is that for the browning slow cooker functions, you have to put a time in - it won't just run open-ended. Not a problem since you can set the timer for hours, but still I'd rather not think about that for stews that I want to leave on all night.
On the whole a great buy.
