3 year update:My Secura stopped working some weeks ago. I was very sad b/c it had served me very well and I even decorated it with a Porco Rosso sticker on the front some years ago. By stopped working, I mean the dispenser stopped dispensing soap no matter how many times I put my hand under the sensor. I ordered a replacement immediately and I noticed a difference: At absolute minimum setting the new Secura pumped out a lot more soap than what I was used to with my old one. With my old one, I can turn the dial to about a quarter of the way and it still dispensed a lot less soap than the new one. Unfortunately after about two weeks the new Secura finished all the soap. I remember I didn't replace the soap as soon as two weeks with my old one. At minimum it took a few months.The issue with my old Secura was that probably water had been trapped on the sensor and over time it developed rust on the transparent portion of the sensor which I later learned to be the IR emitter. This rust then creeped inside and ate the anode pin of the IR emitter eventually causing a disconnect. As a result my old Secura didn't dispense soap b/c the sensor was effectively broken. What was strange though was the blue LED would flash every so often. Before I discovered the rust problem, I was just confused what the flashing blue LED meant. Now I know it means the sensor is broken.So now I was determined to open up my old Secura and replace the IR emitter. I liked my old Secura dispensing a smaller amount of soap than the new Secura which required replacing the soap every two weeks.Here's how I took it apart:There are screws at the bottom. After removing the bottom panel, there is another set of screws to remove the bottom piece holding on to the motor. To make things easy to remove, I unsoldered the wires from the motor. Remember the yellow wire goes to the pin on the motor with the red dot. Now the back piece that houses the battery compartment can be slid down a bit to reveal two screws at the top securing the top chrome piece. Before removing the top chrome piece, there is a screw to remove right by the sensors. Now the top chrome piece can be easily removed to reveal the circuit board. The board is held down by two screws. Now the board can be adjusted up a bit to reveal the IR emitter and IR sensor. I managed to unsolder the broken IR emitter and also clean the board area when the emitter connected b/c it was a bit of a rust farm.I didn't know what type of IR emitter my Secura used. I just picked 940mm IR emitter b/c that seemed to be the usual thing used for a sensor application. I soldered a new one in, put everything back together including re-soldering the wires to the correct pins on the motor: yellow wire to pin with red dot.My old Secura is back in business! To help prevent water and rust forming again and attacking the sensors, I applied transparent tape over them. It still works!The new Secura is decommissioned for now. It dispenses too much soap even at minimum setting.---I revived a Simplehuman automatic soap dispenser for a family member used at her business. It has been in use for about a year without any issues.Ever since I fixed* it I have always wanted one for myself but felt the footprint design was too big for my bathroom sink.Sorry for starting out with a competing product, but I wanted to explain how I wound up with Secura instead.After some research, I decided on Secura. I chose it because I liked the cylindrical window design to see the amount of soap and thought it would be a small enough unit that would fit in my limited bathroom sink area. I was also convinced by the reviewer that compared it with a competing product that looked exactly the same except the spout was different. The reviewer pointed out that the other product had leakage issues at the spout. And that other product has a tapered spout whereas the Secura has what appears to be no spout. It is just a little flat "nub" sticking out. So I thought the type of spout made a difference. However since I haven't had any issues with Simplehuman's dispenser which has tapered spout I was confused. I decided to put my money towards that comparison review.To my surprise, when my dispenser arrived I noticed it has a tapered spout! I immediately thought, "Wow, I could have gotten the similar looking product instead." I also confirmed my dispenser has the "Secura" name stamped to make sure I wasn't mistakenly sent the other product. I can only assume, or hope, the company is making changes to improve the product.Another surprise was that the product was bigger than I thought. I didn't check the product measurements so that's on me. I wanted a smaller product because of my limited bathroom sink area.Despite these surprises, I still wanted to try it out.I poured in an entire bottle of Seventh Generation Natural Hand Wash Hibiscus and Cardamom scent 12 oz. The soap is slightly watery but it still came out of the dispenser fine. I set the adjustment wheel to about medium. When dispensing soap, I leave my hand there until everything comes out. There is no soap leakage afterwards.The instructions says on first use to activate the sensor several times in order to get the soap running through the tubes. I made the mistake of setting the adjustment wheel to the lowest setting and nothing was coming out. Finally I dialed up maximum and after the second or third swipe soap was coming out.I like this product but I wish Secura would also make a slightly smaller unit. If possible maybe about 10-20% shorter. It would also be nice if the cylinder diameter can be smaller, again about 10-20%.Since this dispenser is too large to rest on my bathroom sink area, I had to place it elsewhere. I decided to put it up against the wall. I used two sets of Command Large Picture Hanging Strips. These things work like Velcro except it's stronger. I didn't want to drill a hole in the wall so these Command strips were perfect for the job.I'm including pictures of my dispenser showing the tapered spout and the size comparison of the dispenser with a 12-inch ruler along with my limited bathroom sink rest area. I'm also including a slo-mo video of the dispenser in action.*For those interested about what I did to fix the Simplehuman soap dispenser ...First I apologize that I don't recall everything but I generally remember the main issue was that the dispenser got dirty inside and prevented it from working. One area was the battery compartment. There was soap residue and battery acid over the battery contacts thereby preventing connections with the batteries. I had to sticks, both wooden and metal, along with tissue paper to get all the gunk out and clean out the battery contacts. Another area was circuit board. It was also dirty and prevented the buttons from working. I remember carefully taking it apart to examine and clean everything.But back to the battery compartment, I didn't like that it was on the bottom. Naturally to replace batteries, I would flip the dispenser upside down. But the problem with that is Simplehuman didn't design a leak-proof cap. So that means soap would leak all over, which I suspect caused the dirtiness problem and the dispenser not working in the first place. So having learned my lesson, the next time I opened the battery compartment door, I held up the dispenser and opened it from the bottom. Now the problem with that is gravity is still working against me and the batteries would drop immediately causing loud noises.So I like that Secura has the battery compartment at the side. I don't have to flip or hold up the dispenser. I just let it stand as usual on a flat surface, hold down the top, unscrew the two screws and open the battery door.
